I don't quite follow this train of thought. Don't the map lights come on when you hit the 'unlock' button on the fob? Isn't that enough light?

but wants to have them off while driving.
As it should be.

Eyes tend to be drawn toward any light, and down at your feet is not where you need to be looking (even unconsciously) unless the car is stopped. It really is OK for kids to grow up with the understanding that it gets dark at night and that that's not something that you have to "fix" by turning on another light.

+1

Everyone has their reasons.. but the logic of just having ambient lighting when you open the car for lighting purposes only seems a little off.

I also don't understand the safety portion...to be honest they aren't bright enough in my opinion to really guide your way into the car or anything, upon entry the map lights overwhelm them anyway so you hardly can tell that they're on.

I personally keep mine on when i drive, they produce a pretty small amount of light in the cabin and I've never found myself gazing at them or anything while I drive. I personally think it's a personal preference whether to drive with them on or off

the entire thing about safety reasons is because the little kids tend to "forget" items in the car and they somehow end up on the driver and passenger side floor. I've had a friend trip over a roll of table mats and one fall from slipping on a toy. THis is my largest concern as you cannot see down in front of the seats as well. I'm not sure if it would have made a huge difference but it could have.

On a side note, iit was pretty funny to see them fall

I put in leb strip lights from wallmart in the front footwell of my 2014 v6 base ,jumped them into the map light switch and that give full control of the lights.Very simple very cheap and very wow. kiwi4100
