Remounted my Oil separator (with pics)
As some of you may remember, I installed an air/oil separator after my engine build/power upgrade. The separator was originally installed in it's supplied bracket that went into the Steeda air intake like so:
A few months back I upgraded to the Saleen Extreme air intake (for a number of reasons). In removing the air/oil separator, the supplied black plastic bracket broke. I think I tightened it too much, or perhaps it was just cheap.
In any case, a zip-tie served as a temporary mount:
It didn't look terrible, but it ended up resting on a brake line, and I'm afraid over time it could wear its way through the line.
So between last night and this evening, my dad, friend, and I figured out a way to mount it, make it solid, and look at least somewhat OEM.
Now keep in mind that it's still a work in progress, and things like a shorter bolt and pre-formed lines will clean it up, but here is our solution.
First we drilled a hole through the black bracket that sits on the driver side strut tower:
Then we installed the separator into it's new home:
I think this will look more OEM once I get a shorter bolt here.
It costs me about $15.00 when all was said and done. I know some (or maybe all) will hate it or think its ugly, but so far it gets the job done and keeps my insides clean . If nothing else, perhaps it will inspire someone to do it better. Tomorrow I'll try and take a photo of the engine bay as a whole just so you get a little more perspective on how it stands out (or hopefully, doesn't).
