The shaker1000 is a ford system, and therefore only available through ford, which also means it's over-priced as an upgrade. Don't get me wrong, I have the Shaker1000 and love it, but for the same money, you can get a lot better with an aftermarket set up with built in nav and dvd playback.

To answer your question though, just as an original option... If I remember right, I think the shaker1000 was like a $1400 option.

It's a great system... but you can do WAY better.

its more than the cost, there is more than just swapping a head unit out, you need to wire the subs and such and its not as simple as just doing all aftermarket

Ok thats what I need to know. I wanted a plug and play system. Im very familiar with doing aftermarket audio but frankly I refuse to do anything to the car that I cannot remove later with no trace it was ever touched. As an example I would never put a deck into a car if I had to splice wires. Only with a metra quick connect adapter. Thats just how i roll. Curious tho... Why is the 1000 not "plug and play" so to speak? And what components are required/different to do it?

Fyreant,

I bought the Shelby Kicker system for my 2010 GT, it was a very easy plug-and-play install. You may want to check it out: http://www.ShelbyStore.com/product-p/kic-s.htm

Ditto.. the head unit friggin' didn't even last me two years. Now it makes a horrible rattling sound for about a minute as it cycles through the cd changer!

An after market system would blow this system away..calling it an upgrade from the 500 to the 1000 is a joke. Get a REAL system

edit: rofl at "1000 watt" sound system.. sounded more like a 85 watt rms AIWA system from the mid 90s rofl
