Exclamation Need Help with AC vents!

Hey all...

I pulled out my AC vents to paint them and on the drivers side the piping came out as well.
I did not think much of it so I just planned on putting it back in after I was done.

Well the piping has some sort of foam around it and I did not think to tape up the foam and got paint all over it.

I later thought this might not be good after a while because I know the AC has moisture and I don't want that paint coming off the foam if it gets wet or anything.

So I want to replace this foam.
I was wondering if anyone can tell me what kind of foam this is and what I can use to glue replacement foam back on that both wont EAT the foam, and will be water proof so moisture will not affect it.

Here are some pics of the vent tubes with the foam on the outside:

Thanks!

I would think that a Pep Boys or Autozone should have some generic replacement parts like foam and rubber door molding. I'd check that first, worst case the dealer will have it they might just make you order a lot of it instead of one vent's worth.

As I recall that foam is pretty generic stuff so you should be able to get some at Pep Boys or the like and cut it to fit with no problem.

That is your generic all purpose insulation foam. Pep Boys, Autozone, and any other auto store worth their salt will carry that.

Cool thx.
What kind of glue should I use so that it is both water proof and will
not eat through that foam?

I believe silicone type of adhesive will do the trick. It does not chemically react to melt the materials you are trying to glue.

if you're lucky they'll have the foam with the adhesive already on the back, peel and stick kinda thing.

Well no way to know for sure without trying it out, but if I had to take a guess I would say that should work fine. Also is nice because all you'll have to do is cut and use the self adhesive rather than trying to find another adhesive. Also should be about the right width go for it.
