drag racing questions...
Our small community did 1/8 mile drag races at the airport twice for the first time last year. About 70 cars ran and 1000 people showed up to watch. Pretty damn good for a community of 30 thousand out in the middle of nowhere. Any Michigan people want to know what you missed, here's a link to a website with pics and video. www.thunderonthestrip.net/
Anyway, I'm looking forward to next summer already and planning some mods to improve times. Since we're using the taxi-way, there is NO track prep whatsoever (also no water box, and very minimal burn outs allowed and insurance requires DOT approved tires only). Partly because of the conditions my best time was 8.64 seconds at 91mph on Goodyear F1 supercars.
Questions:
Right now I have no wheel hop with just the Roush wheel hop kit (no LCA's)....If I buy drag radials, thereby improving traction, is my wheel hop likely to return again???
What are your opinions on 4.10's under these conditions?
I'm mildly worried about my stock clutch...is the sidewall on a 28" drag radial going to off any real cushion when launching compared to a 27"?
Thanks

If your serious with 8th mile go with 4.33's or even taller gears........ but then again with stock suspension traction and 'hook' will probably be an issue. as far as tires I can't really answer for Mustangs but I know my '86 Monte Carlo launched best with DOT Bias belted tires (Hoosier), stored energy in sidewall also provided 'cushion' you speak of.

drag radials will negate the 4.10 gears. unless the track is really crappy you will be fine and get plenty of hook.
as far as wheel hop, you really need LCA's. they are a cheap $100-150 investment and will make the car handle like a different animal. combined with your Roush kit and you will be to go for some launches
I wouldn't worry about the clutch overly much. I know plenty of people who have been using their stock clutch to drag race for a long time without any issues. how many mile? does it slip already?
