The guys seem like a bunch of dolts. Tanner's the only one with meaningful car knowledge, and he's kinda a prima dweeba.

What, how could 3 new hosts not be as good as 3 guys who have been doing it for 15 seasons? Thats just ridiculous. You guys need to calm down.

A video of TGUK is not proof of why TGUS is bad, lets use a little logic every once in awhile.

The parts cost to build it initially, no. But that just buys you a pile of parts.

Adding in a fair labor rate to actually get it built and then tuned so that it works up to somewhere near the promised potential makes for a whole 'nother comparison. Over on Pro-Touring.com there is a thread about cars coming in at/under $30k. The price of most everything that fits under that limit would double if people were figuring their own time being worth only $50/hr.

BTW, I'd also take the Boss. I think it would make a far better showing of itself at the dragstrip than the CJ would do on a road course (or worse yet, at an autocross).

i think it would be easier to build something to outperform the Boss, than to build something to outperform the CJ.
throw some suspension parts, and some sticky tires on my 2007 GT and it'll outrun the Boss.

On the other hand, outperforming the CJ only needs big power, big rear tires, and a little rear suspension work. There are plenty of ways to get that first item done when the "forced induction" door is wide open. Or even if you take forced induction off the table, since engines up to something over 900 CID are available (if you've got the $).

how many modded S197's do you see in the 8's?
sure its an easy formula, big power, light weight, traction.
but how many of those do you actually see?
the long block alone costs over $20k.
there is chassy work, weight reduction, suspension, transmission, rear end.
i think the cost of the CJ is much more performance oriented, whereas the Boss is just the name that people are impressed by. "ooh look it's a Boss!"
the Boss' performance is more easily reached.
suspension and tires are the main ingredient, and weight reduction. the power that it has isn't impressive.

throw some suspension parts and sticky tires on my 2007 GT and it wont even come close to the CJ.
do the same with my car vs the Boss and it'll come very close on the track. and in a drag race i'll beat it.

I never said it was proof of anything. Hell I want to like the show. That's why despite my comments I'm still watching.

AND IT STILL SUCKS

You are right, that is damn funny, thanks so much for linking this vid!

I cannot help but think they purposefully set out to continually screw up that car beyond all recognition!

TGUS has about as much chance of making it as Crystal Pepsi did.
