Total Cost to Get Parts on Car?
#11
I am a huge fan of Trufiber and the looks of their hoods on our cars. Unfortunately, as Pascal mentioned, they can be costly to prep & paint. In my past experience, I paid very close to the amount that Pascal mentioned above to prep & paint the hood that was on my old 2005 GT.
I'm not trying to scare you from getting one yourself, because I have seen where others have paid much less.
If you do a search, which you may have already done, you should be able to find more than enough information to help.

I just paid $375 to get my Trufiber hood painted. I have worked with the body shop on several other jobs so they know me. I asked for a qoute on a fiberglass hood and they gave me a qoute for the work, I agreed and dropped off the hood. When I went back to pick up the hood they said they should have charged me more because they had put some much prep into the hood before they could paint it.
I guess I got lucky and it helps to have a good relationship with the body shop. Since that is about the only work I am not comfortable doing.

Okay...I wish I had a connection at a shop that could get me somewhere, but I don't really think I do. I might hit up some contacts and see if I can find someone that can get me in somewhere...I just won't be able to afford to spend $1,000+ on prep and paint, but it doesn't seem like I'll know how much it cost until I get it, pretty much a $1,000 gamble.
And at the same time as I would like it cheap, I don't want someone to do an awful job because I'm not paying enough. I guess it's more of a double edged sword that I should just avoid impaling myself on until I know that I can afford it no matter what, which would be on my own time rather than asking for it as a Christmas gift.
