Random topic: is the 2010+ bodystyle popular with the "babyboomers"?
This is just a random discussion topic. I've noticed that the 2005-2009 Mustangs are well loved by the "baby boomer" and older crowd. Before that, the Mustangs of the past were mainly a teenager-late 20s year old car. But when the 05 model came out, the older crowd fell in love again. We saw many middle aged men driving around in 05 Gt's. It was well loved and received and many people thought it was THE mustang.
Then the 2010 mustang showed up in 2009. Many people felt mixed on the design. I saw it as more of a modern, meaner look of the 05 model, but still carried over many retro cues. I know the rear end was the main source of the hatred, many people think the rear is just horrid, while others (like myself) love the new rear.
So, what is the consensus of the older crowd with the new mustang? Hated, loved, loved only for the 5.0, etc?

Should this not be in the OT section? Or at least the appearance sub-group?
And not sure why you think the 05-09 is simply more limited as a preference to the middle-aged+ crowd, not counting that the baby-boomers generation are quite a bit past middle-age now. My teen-ĻtimeĻ was of the 90īs 5.0. Looks wise I couldnīt stand it then, still canīt.

I am the ripe old age of 44. When the '05's came out, it was "that is what a Mustang is supposed to look like" to me. I remember the Mustang II, the Fox bodies that came out in the mid '80's, and the SN95's. To me they where just "average". Then came the S197platform. Everything from the interior to the exterior was, to me atleast, what a Mustang should look like. So I got one. Then the '10's came out. In my personal opinion, it is the most beautiful Mustang FoMoCo has ever put out. So I trded for a '10. I have never second guessed myself in getting it instead of an '11. I love it. Far more of an agressive look from the front to the back, and I love the comfort and quietness of the interior. No other car maker has EVER come close to what the appearance and performance of the S197 as far as retro goes. Again this all just my opinion.

My dad, who is 55, and my uncle, who is 50, both have mustangs. My dad hates the rear end of the new ones and himself has a 2009 GT/CS. My uncle doesn't seem to mind, and has a 2010 GT with some package from the dealer. Honestly, most people I have talked to just do not like that rear end on the 2010.
I am 16, but for me, the problem with the back of the new mustangs is the lights. The rest is ok, but the lights are horrid. If I ever got a car like that, I would have some professional bodyshop patch the rearend with a rear from the 05-09s. I love the agressive style, but to me, the retro is what counts. Now, if someone would strip an 05-09 and rebuild it with everything (trans, drivetrain, engine, etc) from a new 5.0, then we would be talkin!

I am in the crowd that thinks the 05 thru 09 are what a Mustang is supposed to look like. I am 57 and bought my 08 GT500 this year (which was my 1st Mustang). I don't hate the rear end of the new ones but prefer the 05 thru 09. I started looking at the begining of the year and pretty much decided that they were more than I wanted to pay. Then I just happened across this one here on MF. It was exactly what I was looking for down to mileage, color and trim package! I'm not saying I won't own a new style at some point, but for now I have what I like best! Also the rear end is not as big a deal now as it was when I first started looking.

Here we go again. Another controversial topic that has spurred many a fine flame war.
And if mapitts is ripe at 44, then I'm just plain rotten at 55. I didn't pay much attention to Mustangs after the 70's but when the '05 came out I was struck down with the retro look. Gorgeous. I'm also not a fan of the rear of the '10+.

I'am 58 and like them both and own them both. The ten is a better car quality wise because of the up grades. The 05 is just a great car witch lead to the 2010. It's a matter of preference either way you can't go wrong.

I think I have a different outlook then most, maybe not. My first mustang was an 82' GT T-top. I loved the style back then. The 87' style GT did nothing for me. It looked like a way for ET (The Movie) to get home. In the mid 90's, I was born again hard, and picked up a 96' Cobra Vert. Which still maybe my pick for the sharpest looking Stang since the 60's. The late 99 through 04's were OK, but didn't push me out to buy one. When the 05's came out, I was again drawn to buying a Stang. I am sorry, the 10's and 11's lost me with the Toyota rear, but I do envy the power. To me it seems like Ford builds a few years of sweet rides then drops the ball, and emerges again several years later. Just my two cents. Buy a car for you and no one else. Like Forrest Gump said, "That's all I have to say about that."
