Moroso Oil Catch Can install with Pics
Oil vapor is forced out of the cylinder head and redirected through vacuum hoses into the intake stream. The oil vapor then condenses onto the inside surfaces in the intake system. This is especially prominent in the inter-cooler core. A thin film of oil coating the inside of the inter-cooler will insulate the air to air exchange and lower the ability of the inter-cooler to cool the intake air charge.
After some research, I purchased the following part for my 2008 Mustang GT:
Moroso P/N 85477 - Air-Oil Separator. Fits: Mustang 05 & Up - $136.95
http://www.moroso.com/catalog/catego...18548&pt=85477
I had a few questions:
1. What material is the filter made of? I've heard stories about the steel wool strands separating and being sucked into the engine?
2. I would like to mount it inline, can I get the unit with straight hose BARB fittings, instead of the 90 degree ones?
3. Are the vacuum hoses that are supplied, rated for the oil/heat?
PS. The units I'm comparing with are the following? If you have any advice on these, I would appreciate it.
JLT Oil Separator - $119.00

UPR Oil Separator - $119.00

HMS Oil Seperator - $161.95

The parts I received was really good quality, but the hoses was clearly marked "Heater Hose".
I ordered the following parts from Aeroquip to modify and complete the installation.

If you would like to have a custom one built, we can do that. The fittings come 90 deg, anything else would be custom. If you would like to use different mounting brackets you can also order those in-addition, but they would not be included in a kit.
There is a steel wool type filter elimate inside but it is not steel wool, it is a poly wool, nothing that would cause damage. We haven't had any issues with it coming apart any way. We use it in almost all of our breather tanks and air/oil seperators.
The hoses supplied will take the heat no problem. We have been in business for 42 years. And we do our best to be sure that we supply you and all of our customers with the correct parts for the application.
