Default What to use for day time running lights?

I have a 2006 v6 mustang and recently got new headlights with halos and the projectors. I want the halos and projectors to be on at all times, day and night, so what should I wire them to so I can have this?

Nothing canned you can set it to that I´m aware of. The easiest way that comes to mind is to set up a relay to use with the IGN line to control it.

If I had a bug up there to do this, my first inclination would be to use the fogs for this, using the relay to give power so long as the IGN line has power, killing it when the normal ones are used, then switching it back on for the pull-out switching/fog-lights position. Minimal harness molestation this way, as you should just need to tap the one line with this, on each fog light harness that is. Reference here I believe.

In some states, driving with only the fog lights on is illegal. Go figure.

That is dumb-***.

Of one of the actual things that insurance actuaries have revealed that is actually true, daytime running lights do indeed help other drivers become aware of the car with them and this could indeed help prevent a collision (for example when the vehicle you saw just a split second ago is now in your blind spot, the fact that you remember he had his lights on made you realize you do not see those lights and this cues you to think that you should go ahead and look into your blind).

So maybe i could wire them to the lighter. Does this stay on though if the car is turned off? Any suggestion?

The aux lighter in the center console is constantly powered, unsure as to the one in the dash, but if it isn´t I´d assume it´s on the ACC line. I don´t think any of them are rated for anything beyond 10amp, which equates to around <140watts.

Without seeing it I´m only guessing, but if it´s just set to wire completely into the factory harness, you´ll need to use a relay for something easily accessible to that area. Really, IMO your not going to want to pull any wiring from inside the car back out to the bay, unless your asking to have added noise.

Realistically, as my suggestion, if you don´t know much about this, have a decent multi-meter and know how to use it.. I´d enlist the help of a friend that can do this for you, or have a place install it for you.

Aside from that, view this thread here for more details from the mustang source article that another wrote, using a bought module specifically for this. Google is your friend.

Probably more so, depending on your time of day/night previous driving habits. But it is a good safety measure IMO, and documented I believe. Canada has it as a requirement I believe, many other regions as well. I´d expect it to be mandated by most states here in a decade.

Of course while you can´t cut the output by the usual percentage for these, you could simply remember to hit the switch when you get in the car regardless, and in essence have the same effect.

This not being there by default at least makes some sense as it´s not mandated everywhere. What makes absolute zero sense to me is why they aren´t tied to the Ignition in that smart junction box via a relay by default.

Having to remember to turn off your lights in a modern car or kill your battery is just insanely stupid to me, that basic method of wiring should have died decades ago.

It's illegal here, I got a ticket for it a few years back. I thought it was odd, he didn't even MENTION my window tint.
