I know you stated you want to keep the same size, but I urge you to reconsider and put on some 255/45/18's. They are technically the same size (diameterwise), and have a just slightly wider contact patch.
Believe me, I changed the tires to 255's and will probably never change back from that size for as long as I keep these stock wheels.

I like the survey info on tirerack.com for starters. What are you looking for and what's your price range? If you don't need snow handling and have a tight budget, the P-Zero is a decent tire if you're not racing and for most DDing. But the survey info will help you pin down a better tire if needed. And remember, all seasons suck in the snow, I don't care WHAT the ratings say. Some just suck less than others but compared to dedicated winter tires, a/s tires S U C K.

Out of those tires I'd go with either these

Or these

I've owned both and they are quieter than the average tire.

It sounds like a summer performance tire is all you need. The tirerack survey info is set up by performance category. I usually print the survey then write in the tirerack price for the tires I like and then start mulling things over from there. But I take the rating info with a grain of salt. For instance, the OE tires that came on my SUV are rated 65th out of 70 tires on tirerack for that category, failing miserably for snow handling. But since I've moved to the south, I'd consider them if the price is right as a replacement since they are just fine otherwise.
As far as tire width, the 255's will give the Stang more "attitude" plus provide a bit more solid of a feel. Wider and a better rubber compound over the stock tires also provide a bit more hook-up. The specs provided on the tirerack site will tell you what width wheel you need for a given tire. You should be able to get your wheel width off the inside of the wheel or from the Owners Manual. Most stock 17's on the Stang are 8" wide and most 18's are 8.5" if I recall.

+1 on the 255/45/18s
Take a look at the Tire Rack. They have Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar tires in 255/45/18s for $130 each. And if you buy 4 tires, you will get $80 back in a mail-in rebate.
This is what I bought last month and I love the tires! These are what should have come on the factory 18 x 8.5" wheels!
