So just recently my mustang has been squeaking under the hood. It has become notoriously louder, especially now since the days have been very wet and rainy. I sprayed the pulleys with WD40 and it silences it, and from that I realized that the squeaking came from the alternator pulley.

The WD40 is only a temp fix as the squeaking returns after I clock out and head home (4 hrs later). What can I do to fix this? Thank you.

Guess no one answered this one. I had the same problem with my 1999 Ford Ranger where I replaced the serpentine belt and fixed the problem. However, something you would have to replace the pulley tenjsioner too.

Sometimes it's just the belt. Other times it's the belt caused by an out of alignment pulley causing belt wear. By virtue of the squeak going away from lubing the belt (providing no generous overspray), you've eliminated the possibility that it's a noisey bearing.

A still-short but longer term fix is a belt dressing which might last weeks or days instead of hours. Otherwise, sounds like a trip to the shop.

Mine squeaked after I replaced my belt tensioner, I think its a belt.
