Default SCCA footage from yesterday

this is in my 2000 GT, btw.
posting it here since this is where my MF family is.
i am using the 2000 GT bc it has 2" drop springs, subframe connectors. my 2007 suspension is stock.
other mods in the 2000 are:
CAI, 78mm TB and plenum, custom brenspeed tune, Accel COP
Steeda UDP's, Spec stage 2 clutch, 3.73's, pro 5.0 shifter
o/r h pipe, mac catback
18" FR500's with Nitto 555's

i'm at the bottom of my class in times. i might have to bring out my 2007 to see what it can do.

this is my 3rd run of the day

and this is my 4th and final run of the day
SCCA 1/9/2011 run#4

thanks, Hammer. if you dont have something like this, maybe a good twisty road will do.
we've had this here for a long time, but i didn't think it would be much fun.
but it is a ton of fun.
unfortunately, almost all the imports are faster than me right now.
but i believe most of it is driver experience.
so now i must learn to road race like a jedi apprentice.

Where are you located?

In North America you'd be surprised at how many AutoX events take place. There are many different organizations that stage events. The SCCA is the biggest event organizer but also there is NASA and many car clubs: Corvette, BMW, Mazda, Porsche, etc, etc. They have most of the populated areas of the US and Canada covered and its not to hard to find an event within driving distance.

For anyone who wants to try it - its easy, friendly and cheap. For SCCA AX events for example - usually costs around $30 for the day and you don't have to be a member. Any street car will do (I've even seen pickup trucks and go-carts out there). Most clubs have loaner helmets and will frequently offer to have a instructor ride with you. Its tons of fun and is a great way to teach car control in a safe, controlled environment. And believe me - when you are actually on-course driving, everything happens a whole lot faster than what it looks like in a video. Look into it if you are interested or send me a PM and I can help you find an event in your area.

Imports ARE really good at this. The Mustang is just too heavy IMO. My last car (a 2003.5 Mazdaspeed Protege Turbo) routinely beat Mustangs. In fact, it beat 'vettes, too. Autox just isn't conducive to high power muscle cars. In fact, that little Mazda was .02 higher than that year's Porsche Carerra on the skid pad.

That being said, I'm SOO glad glad I got my '06 GT!!

No turbo lag, just instant power. And that's what's it really all about, don't you think?

yes. at the stadium.
they moved it there after the track closed in 2006.
sucks that the 1/4 mile track is now closed. so i have to work with what i got.
hopefully another one will be built, but i dont see that happenning in the near future.
drag racers now have to ship their cars to the other islands to race, making it very expensive and inconvenient.
one of these days i'll ship my 07 over to another island to race 1/4 mile. it just takes a little more planning and money to race over there with the cost of shipping and hotel stay. its actually cheaper for me to vacationin Vegas than it does to go to an island thats only a few miles away.
