Effect of 3.73 gears on 2011 GT
I am looking at a new 2011 GT premium 6-sp that comes with 3.73 gears installed as an option.
I will be test driving it soon but want to know what overall effects (positive and negative) this may have on driving, performance, MPG, etc.
Thanks for any feedback

If you use the search function, you'll find hundreds (maybe thousands) of posts on this subject. Once you've gone over them, you'll find that the concensus is:
Your mileage will suck
Your mileage won't suck
It's too much gear
It's not enough gear, get 4.10s
I'm glad I have them
I wish I hadn't gotten them
Just trying to save you the trouble. Everyone's got their own opinions around here, and they all have merit, but they're all very subjective. IMO the 5.0 with 3.73s is a blast. If you like the car, don't let the gearing scare you away. Just my 2 cents

I think Florida Guy is right on the mark. Everyons opinion is different
From my perspective....
I just picked up my 2011 GT MT which was already optioned with the 3.73s. I'm not sure I would have ordered one with those gears as I am not a 1/4 mile blaster but they seem pretty reasonable with the manual. Your 70 mph RPM will be around 2100 rather than 1850 with the 3.31. I'm sure that affects the mileage some but I doubt it is much. Youll be out of first gear faster but otherwise I see little difference other than the car being as responsive as heck.
I love dropping from sixth to fourth on the freeway and being shoved back in the seat as the car goes into warp speed.
Good luck.

At first I wasn't sold on the 3.73s but I got used to them. Between the 3.73s and the 6 speed I found myself shifting quite a bit more than I did in my 07 but I really enjoy driving so it's fine with me. The acceleration, especially in 2nd, is awesome.

In my experience, the difference in accelleration will feel like it is alot more than what it really is. How much of a difference it makes depends upon tire grip and how efficient your shifting is. I think 3.73 gears work wonders on an auto when the car has sufficient grip in first gear.
I had 3.73 gearing done on my 05 v6 and, while the car felt alot faster, it really was only a little faster. It was a manual and the gas milage went from 25 average to 23.

Thanks for the great input. I know there are a lot of threads but I wanted some fresh feedback specifically on the 2011 GT. Of course, the test drive will be the best feedback.
The car also has the Bremo Brake Package.
I'll post my impressions.

6-speed, likely comparable to 4.10 in 5, I constantly shift, but I love it. Doesn´t bother me a bit. Take off is night and day from the stock 3.31. MPG goes by a few, some from the gear ratio diff itself, some from wanting to test the new gear ratio more often.
