Default Another new tire question thread

I have the stock 17" rims and have decided (after researching many posts here and on other sites), that I am going to get the 255/50/17's this summer. My stock Pirelli's have at least 40K on them (car had 9K on it when I bought it but I'm thinking the original owner had aftermarket rims and tires since the factory wheellocks are missing and the tires still had the beads on them when I bought the car).

I've narrowed my choices down to the following 4 choices:

NITTO 450's
NITTO 555's
NITTO INVO's
HANKOOK VENTUS ST

I drive my car all year long (Since it's not appreciating in value ), and we do get snow here in the winter. I don't expect a RWD V8 Muscle car to drive like a 4x4 in the snow, but I don't want to make the winter driving experience any worse than it already can be in our cars. Can anyone who has now or in the past had any of these tires chime in and give opinions as to which tire would be the best year round tire that I can get some decent mileage out of???

TIA

First off, there are no AS tires that perform well in snow AND provide performance in summer. Forget the advertising.

Secondly, be mindful of the tire manufacturers spec and what wheel widths they recommend for their 255 tires. I believe your stock 17" wheels may be 8.0" wide and most tire manufactureres recommend no wider than 245's.

I have a coworker that has Continental ExtremeContact DWS on his M3 and swears by them. He said the do very well in light snow. I do agree with Nuke in that there is always a compromise. For all year performance...this would be a good tire (it's classified as an ultra-high performance AS). However, it will not work as well as a summer tire in the summer, or a true winter tire in the snow. Good luck!

Keep in mind that you can often get a set of wheels + tires for not too much more than just tires so if you were considering ever upgrading your wheels, now would be a good time to do that.
