I have the 6sp manual. I'm gonna wait on the gears for now.. Sounds dumb, but I don't want to do anything like that while it's under warranty.. Just don't want to play games with the dealer IF there are any problems down the line.

The good thing about starting with just a tune, you can get the benefit of the tune and if you get one with free updates...then you'll be set if you want to add gears or CAI in the future.

IMO, you'd be happy with the 3:73s.

The Motives have a tendency to cause gear whine.
Some people will say it is the quality of the install but I know for a fact that they are more prone to it.
Some people do not run into problems with the Motives but the statistics don't lie.
Do research and you will find for yourself that the Motives are prone to causing problems.
Forums, shops, people....you'll find the Motive gears just aren't as good quality.

The motive gears are also NOT built as strong as the Ford Racing gears.

Thanks! sounds like the Motive gear needs to be installed precisely. I had a Z28 with Richmond 3.73s and they always whined...must be manufacturing process as to why some brands install easily and others require a lot of adjusting.

About this 3.31 vs 3.73 stuff...

Let me get this straight, 3.31:1 is 3.31 crank turns to one wheel turn. So by changing the axle ratio to 3.73:1 - or 3.73 crank turns to one wheel turn - I'm effectively putting more power into the rotation of the wheel. Does this show up on a dyno? It sounds like the power to the floor is increased.

One more question - I'm sold on the 3.73 because I want to use Ford Racing parts only - but if I buy it, is this something I can install myself? I have a moderate level of car knowledge and know how to crank a wrench...

Thanks - I hope this is still considered on subject.

No, it is 3.31 revolutions @ the output shaft of the transmission / pinion gear to 1 revolution of the ring gear.

What he said. That would be the best way of figuring out what you really wanted.
