Default Turning an Auto Into a Manual

I have a v6 Auto but I would really prefer a manual. Does anybody know what the process would be of turning it into a manual?

Thanks

It's a pretty involved swap, and most people will tell you it's easier and cheaper to trade your car for a manual.

There's a thread somewhere with all the info, but it's not working for me right now

+1 on cheaper trading in and replacing. There's more than just teh mechanical end of it. You have electronics to consider.

You could look for a totaled mustang that is the same make/model/year with a manual tranny and swap parts....that's a fairly easy job. Look in the salvaged adds those older smashed V6 mustangs are super cheap.

Just look into getting something like the TCI ratchet shifter. That will allow you to shift like a manual and it is only around $300 bucks. It is not an easy swap to go from auto to manual.

Well even with a parts car its not that easy. A friend of mine is in the process of doing it on his truck. Its easier and cheaper to just trade yours in and get a different one. There is quite a bit of little things people forget about when it comes to this. Also, as Nuke said, the electronics. The ECU is going to be looking for things that are no longer there, so you have to deal with that too.

I think I'll with the TCI - it looks pretty awesome

I never said it was practical but, it's not difficult....if you know how to work on cars. Just as long as you have a donor car with everything you need. Change the parts you want to the project car along with the wiring harness and ECU if required and your done. This should take a weekend. I've completed projects like this when I was younger.....all you need is youthful ambition, mechanical knowledge/desire and effort....the rest will sort itself.
