Question Question for the Pioneer AVH-P3200BT people.

I just got a 3300BT.

The instructions are so confusing because it covers one than one model!
Now... Can I store music on a SD card and play it from there?

Also... can it play music if you store the files on a thumb drive and plug it into the usb outlet?

Thanks

I have never tried either but it has a USB port, so it should work. Did you try?

FAT32/16 only though I wager. So if it´s a portable hard drive don´t format it as NTFS.

My computer has the SD ports built in.
Did you mean portable by the SD reader on the computer?

What should I store the files as for best quality?
The Pioneer says you can use SD and SDHC cards

Also... what the HELL is DIVX?

No, I meant a portable (USB) hard drive. I stated that because you usually can´t format a drive seen as ¨removable¨ in windows to NTFS anyhow by default due to how windows sets the device properties initially. But a removable usb hard drive would not be set the same and NTFS would be usable by default to format the drive unlike a usb stick.

You can get quite a few that are lower draw, so they can actually get enough power to function with just the usb connection. An example of which is the samsung S2 line. Or this Western Digital from Best Buy as another example. And these will work with your head-unit.

Anything used will need to be formatted as previously mentioned. Very doubtful even the newer head-units will recognise NTFS. This is the physical media´s file storage method. For example, right-click in ¨my computer¨ over a connected usb or sd card that you have connected, select properties. In that first tab about 3 down from the top it should state the ¨File system¨, it will be either NTFS, FAT32, or even FAT (which is FAT16, just not listing as such).

You mean the format encoded to? If I you´re referring to medium/media used, it´s all digital man, let the 8-track years go.
FLAC would be the best current compressed format IMO, but I don´t think they support it.

At any rate I assume you´re running windows, so:

Audio = CDex using the LAME(the mp3 encoder) option. CDDB interfacing to get the album info, create ID3v2 tags, etc..
Set to 320 constant bitrate, highest quality. This will give you the best quality mp3.

Video = Handbrake
This you can just use the basic options, or if your looking to get as good as it can, look at the help for it. I haven´t used it. Linux has different programs/methods to do what I want. Just remember to encode to a supported format for that 3300bt.

Also... what the HELL is DIVX?
This is an avi container [codec] usually, but can also be a native container with the extension ¨.divx¨. It´s a fairly common format used to encode video as it´s good compression with not that much loss for the ratio used. x264 using an mkv container is pretty much the standard if you want to encode high-def video anymore.

Most physical media should have died years ago...I only touch a dvd/cd to rip it.

Yes that's an important point...has to be formatted in FAT32, which kind of sucks because most people use NTFS these days.

Dammit.
My computer has an SD thing bulit in but it does not say anything about SDHC.
So I'm not sure if it will accept those.

SO... even though my 3300 radio will accept SDHC I guess I will justt have to buy
the SD card. Will there be any difference in sound quality?

SD = Secure Digital

SDHC = Secure Digital High Capacity...

No there will not be a difference in sound quality... It just refers to the storage capacity of the media card. The only thing that will affect quality is the bitrate you choice, e.g. 128, 196, etc...

The higher the rate, the bigger the file size... meaning on the same card of the same capacity, the higher bitrate will equal fewer songs on the card.
