Default Please suggest a stall converter for my ride! :D

To anyone who's familiar with high stall converters, I'm looking to increase my off the line acceleration and have done pretty much everything an N/A 4.0 can do. Everything except swapping my TC for a high stall TC.

I think our stock 5R55S's stall around 1500, and I know hp/tq will determine where your TC actually stalls at even given advertised stall speeds. I've been looking at TCI's StreetFighter TC with 3000rpm stall speed. My 4.0 with my mods I know I'll be stalling much sooner than that, but would 3000 Stall TC be too much for my 4.0? Would I be better off going somewhere's between 2500-3000 stall TC?

Any input given my mods would be greatly appreciated. I know one 4.0er who runs a high stall TC but can't remember who it was.

Again, thanks ya'll.

You are better off calling someone who makes convertors. They would know better.

I have a 2300 stall in mine. When I blew my trans, I took it to my friend's shop and they recommended it while the trans was out and being repaired. They said it would help get off the line quicker so I went with that. Very pleased with how it drives now

What about a aluminum DS? That will help with acceleration too. Surprised you haven't done that will all your weight reduction considering an aluminum DS sheds some pounds vs the factory 2-piece

Sounds like your putting together a hell of a 4.0. Stall speed converters are always fun. 2300 to 3000 stall would be an improvement off the line.....it would compliment that T-loc/4.10. I attached an inexpensive converter I noticed on e-bay. I have no idea about this company/build quality.....the price looked right.

I had TCI converters for GM products in the past and they worked great/reliable.

Good luck

I've been looking at the Shaftmasters DS and really like what I've heard. This is part of my plan for sure. I'm going so far as to get a set of tube shorty headers for the weight savings alone. I'm hoping that I may be able to take off an additional 15-20lbs or so with a header swap. I've compared the stocks to JBA's and the JBA's felt a LOT lighter; don't know official weights though.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to look into these.

BMR's K-member and a-arms are my next mod, but a TC will follow. DS after that. Gosh. Does it ever end?

Contact Chris @ PTC . he will get you in the right direction. Better converters than TCI an maybe able to work something with your stock converters.
