Default Just bought new 11 GT Mustang, thoughts on extended warranty?

So i just bought a new 11 Mustang GT Premium last night and they offered me the extended warranty and I declined it but they gave me a week to think about it. They are offering it through a company called Fidelity Warranty Services (guessing its not the same as Fidelity Investments) and they are charging $1235 for a 6yr, 72K mile warranty or $1437 for a 5 yr, 100K mile warranty.

what are your guys thoughts on these aftermarket, extended warranties? and is there some other company you guys recommend to get one through?

Thanks!

Depends on how long you plan on keeping the car. Is it bumper to bumper on the 5 year 100K? Need more details? Do you plan on modding the Stang and if so....what type of mods?

I had extended warranties on my DDs and the warranties worked out ....I had a transmission replaced once and had a fuel injector system replaced. Both items cost less then the warranty, so it depends. I never seen a motor blow up which would utilize the warranty but, it gives piece of mind.

If you plan on keeping the car a long time and don't plan on modding it, then maybe it could be worth it. I never bother with them personally, since they always offer it once again right as the warranty is expiring anyway.

I personally purchased one. Although from what I hear, you should never get a warranty that isn't through Ford directly as they seem to be describing.

I have a 6 year 72K plan, I don't plan on doing much heavy modding and would like to ensure that if anything goes wrong that it will (probably) get fixed without any extra cost to me.

IMO, extended warranties won't pay back what you pay for them unless in extreme cases. My personal opinion is to take that $1437 and invest it in a CD or some other interest bearing account. I'll bet that when your car hits 100,000 miles you won't have touched it and you'll have a bunch of interest on top of the original $1437. In the event you DO have a repair, that $1437 and SOME interest will either cover it with money to spare or come close.

Both options are a crap shoot. I like mine.

I personally dislike extended warranties. Especially if you will do heavy mods (just like others have said above). Extended warranties are just more S*** the dealership can deny if one of your mods F***s something up and damages a stock part in your car.

And also for the logic Nuke said: in many cases, extended warranties are not worth the additional cost when you could just save the money all along for a rainy day and actually put that money to work for you to make MORE of it

Right on!
A no Ford provided warranty is a NONO. For all kinds of reasons.
For starter, you will find out in very small prints, that there is a deductible on most.
Kinda defeats the purpose eh?

I also agree with Nuke that unless, you have major repairs, it's a waste.
Those cars have come a long way and are pretty reliable nowadays.

Congrats on the new car.
