the GT500 and the Boss 302 are up there in my book as 2 of the best of the current Mustangs.
Griggs Racing and Sam Strano can put together some bada$$ suspension kits for our Mustangs as well.

We'll see. Again as many have mentioned, the articles never include fit out after market GT's that have utilized a combination of basic after market options available to everyone, with a great deal of front end and rotational mass weight loss, SC ed power, bigger brakes, chassis stiffening, and complete suspension change outs, as well as rear tires that go beyond the limiting 285 widths in excellent summer tires.
A car as described above would still be less than or the same a specialty car in price, and handle at least as well, but we'll never know, because no one ever sets up side to side comparisons. Since the Mustang is designed for this direction more than any other car in production(world's largest after market) you'd think that this contingency would be represented with the other commercial releases, since many take their cars this way.
