Default Amsoil 10w-30 in mustang GT good idea?

I own a 06 mustang Gt with a Saleen Supercharger. factory Saleen tune and no additional mods.

I have 7 qts of Amsoil 10w-30 synthetic in my garage that I use on my Evo IX. I was wondering if anyone else has used this oil on their Mustangs and had good experience with it?

Thank you.

I believe some of the FI guys are running 5W30 in their GT's. My guess is that if your cold start temps are pretty warm, it probably wouldn't hurt.

I'd call Amsoil and find out if the 10W30 formulation is the same as their 5W30 and then mix 1 or 2 quarts of the 10W30 with the 5 or 4 quarts of 5W30 at each fillup (maybe even 50:50) if you really feel the need to use it up.

Run it through the lawnmower for the next few years and get the right oil for your $35K+ car...

A fella who hangs out in the suspension section has been running 10w40 in his 4.6-3V for 2 years now w/o issue...at high rpm for extended periods. He tracks the car regularly and swears by 10w40. I've been running 5w30 myself since new. 75k on the car now w/o issues.

Do I think 10w30 would damage the car? no. Would I run it? probably not.

I was reading a post the other day on some forum (may have been this one can't recall) and an employee from JPC (what I would call experts in the field) was talking about the small oil orifices and cam phasers may have problems with 10w40. 10w30 should be ok.

Ford says 10w40 is fine in the 3V 4.6, was part of the prescription for fixing the tick in some trucks. The 4.6 3V in the stang should be the same right?

Try asking UnleasedBeast in the Oil Section of the forums.

Guys, I've always recommended a robust 5W-30 or 0W-30 in the 4.6L modular. Ford's recommended 5W-20 is a joke, and was only done to save them millions in fines due to CAFE laws. Look at the specs of Amsoil 5W-30 and Amsoil 10W-30

Viscosity @ 100*C - both are exactly the same weight of 10.8 cSt
Viscosity @ 40*C - Amsoil 5W-30 (60.7 cSt) - Amsoil 10W-30 (63.3 cSt)

It isn't going to make a hill of beans difference in his engine ( Amsoil 5W-30 versus 10W-30), and in fact....will protect much better than any 5W-20 currently formulated by ANY manufacturer.

Original Poster, run this lubricant with confidence, and tell them I said so!
