Has anyone seen the vortex electric supercharger? claims 20-35 hp. think it would actually work? Sounds real shady to me. A video claimed 5 pounds of boost. What do you all think?

Electric supercharger? What RPMs does it turn? What displacement is it? Is there a compressor map for it?

Weird, my buddy was just talking about this the other day. I'll quote some of what he said:

"Im calling it right now, electric superchargers will take over eventually. Once cars are running on 24-48 volts instead of 12, its all over."

and then

"You know that pipe that you use for a cold are intake? Seperate it, insert electric motor powered fan housed in a tube, hook motor up to power source. Example, your alternator is prolly ra...ted at 90-100 amps, it only uses maybe 60 of this. The extra energy is waste. But on 12 volt electric superchargers at this point can only put out about 2-3 psi. Throw a 48 volt system in a car, youre talkin 8-10 psi of boost, with absolutly no loss in horsepower, and the easiest plumbing to hook up."

So basically, the power isn't quite there yet to get much power out yet, but years down the road, it is a possibility. He also likes to talk about how solenoids will eventually replace camshafts once they can get some that last 100k miles, and how engine blocks will eventually be made of plastic.

Whats the problem? I find it completely believable that you might lose 20-35 hp by installing this.

If your going to try something like this atleast make sure your fan blade is efficient and doesnt have a flat spot taking up half of your intake tube.

Also good luck with simply feeding your engine more air and hoping it realizes its now "supercharged" so it can add gas.

This remind me, i do have an old leaf blower sitting around. Time to add some BOOST!

Looks to me like the fan has been fabricated with tin snips. I wouldn't touch that thing!

Those things have been around since the early 90's, they never worked then and they don't work now!
