2012 Boss or 2012 GT500?
#13
Gt500. The 5.0 coyote can make more power per psi boost manifold but you cannot ever boost the Coyote as much as you can the GT500. The 5.4 L will easily and reliably take over 20 psi boost manifold where the Coyote will start to destroy it self in mid to high teens boost if you do not rebuilb the short block and drop the CR. Also, handlingwise, the GT500 can be upgrade with alot of better suspension parts. You might not Ever get to Boss handling but you will still be able to upgrade to better than GT handling.

You guys think they'll ever make the mistake of dropping the 5.4 in favor of the 5.0 in the GT500? It would seem very reasonable to assume the 5.0 could make 500HP with FA at the crank...I ask because now I'm seeing the F150's are 5.0s and Im assuming the 4.6 is being permanently put to pasture.

with the boss you get forged internals, so even though its not blown from the factory doesn't mean you can't. I much prefer handling to straight line power and the boss smokes the gt500 around a track.
Its a very good decision to have to make though. I am very jealous.

The only thing your missing in your price numbers between the two is the 15K dealer mark up on the boss which puts it at 58K well above the base GT500. The GT500 also has a better trans to handle its greater power. The boss is nice yes, but the GT500 can be made into a real beast.....

anyhow, i may do 1 or 2 track days each year and maybe a bit of autocross. mostly i want a fun car for the street with power. my exact thoughts for a boss were that special edition black paxton under the hood and the price diff between the gt500 base and the boss at sticker basically covers that. The real catch here and probably the deciding factor is if i can get a boss. As for programming, what i under stand is that the boss has basically dual ecms and the key activates whichever you want to use. I would then assume that whatever key was last used to start the car would be the ecm you would be tuning, but who knows.
Was it motor trend or car and driver that tested the boss 302 lately, it was very, very close to the GT500 on the gtr mile and 0-60 and just beat the gt500 down on the track, the reality is the cars are only 200 pounds apart in weight. i bet a gt500 with some koni yellow, nice springs, and a few other tweaks would be a different animal as far as the track competition goes.

How about this question: We haven't been talking much about the LS Boss. What if the OP could get a LS Boss at sticker $48K vs a 2011 GT500 for $48K....what would you do? The LS addition is bad axx!! That's a tough decision....remember the 2000?1 Cobra R....an all out race car!! I still see those once in awhile and when I do I want one just as much as I did back in 2000?1!! I would probably go with the LS Boss over the GT500....most likely.
