Default Quick word of advice to 07-09 Shelbys and GT500 conversions!

Picked up some Xentec HID's 6000k off Amazon, great deal for $60 for headlamps and $40 for fogs, they have some mixed reviews but I came across mostly positive and plenty of videos up on youtube as well. However, a week after running them, the plastic cover of the fogs has melted slightly and ruined the fogs somewhat. I did read across HIDs overheating and causing the plastic to melt but didn't think it would happen to me. Guess you get what you pay for. The headlamps are fine and offer some serious light and don't seem to overheat so I left those on. Returned my fogs to stock and now it looks somewhat factory so I'm happy. Just thought I'd give a quick review..

Nope,35w. I was going to go for 55w but thank god I didn't else the outcome would have been much worse. I came across 70 or 75w the other day.. can't imagine how bright those would be.

Guys 35W HID's are MUCH brighter than 55W halogen bulbs. The headlight and especially the fog light housings on these cars are not designed for HID. The fog light reflector/housing puts out a widely dispersed pattern. You put HID's in there and you are blinding evry driver on the road when they pass.
It might help some if you could aim them down some, but the fogs are not adjustable. So not a good idea at all even if it had not melted the housings!!

More than likely the fog light melted because it's a small housing so the HID concentrates a lot of heat on the inside.

Hmm but I've definitely seen HIDs on other gt500s on fogs, seem to be running fine with no problems. Guess it depends from company to company too,quality..etc
