Need some input: tallest 20" tire size on stock suspension
#21
I just want to keep the sidewall ratio as high as possible with the larger wheel so the ride is better. I really don't see an issue with filling the fender with 20" wheels and tires on a non-lowered car. A 255/35 tire on a 20" wheel is no different in height than a stock 235/50/18 wheel/tire combo. I want to fit the tallest tire I can under there to retain some ride cushion. I'm just not sure how tall I can go without rubbing, and I can't find a tire shop willing to let me experiment with different sizes.

Oh ya...forgot to mention that...lowered with the Eibach Prokit, just installed STR-T Koni's and GT500 strut mounts...no more front end clunk! As far as the safety issue, deal with a reputable tire shop, they are on the line if they sell/install something thats going to create a safety hazard.

I was considering a 255/45/20 tire on all 4 corners with the 8.5" wheels. This is what Dodge Magnums run stock I believe. This combo runs 29" tall, but I just don't see how it will fit under there, especially on the top inner side of the fender near the springs/strut. I'm starting to wonder if wheel offset plays a lerger part in what tire size can be used up front.

Awesome pics grabber! Thanks. I'd like to see more of that car, maybe from a different angle if the pics are out there somewhere. That 255/40 fills the fender nicely on stock suspension. Anybody else think a 245/45/20 would fit under there in the front? there's got to be somebody out there who has tried this.

One thing is for sure, the heavier wheels and tires will rob power.

My intake and tune fixed that issue...but what really lagged were the brakes after the 20's and big rubber...so that called for a pair of Baer's 14" rotors up front...fixed that issue too and looks tite with the 20's

I can't find examples anywhere of anybody running a 245/45/20 or 255/45/20 in front on a non-lowered Mustang. And I've searched a lot. None of the local big name tire shops will let me mount one new tire to experiment and test fit.
So I think I might try to find a bald tire somewhere at a shop, or maybe on Craigslist, and have it mounted on one of my wheels just to test fit. That way I can truly test fit to find the right size. I just hate to have multiple mountings done on the wheel. We all know how the tire shops treat our nice wheels while they are doing any work on them.
