Short antenna recommendations?

Short antenna recommendations?
The stock antenna just looks silly. I tried a solid 6" short antenna but the reception really suffered and even clear signals just didn't sound good. Can anyone recommend a short antenna that really has performance like the stock but isn't 50 feet tall? I'd prefer it in black.
Mustangs look so sexy, having that dorky antenna there is just a nuisance. Ford should be, you know, risky, and try putting the antenna in the glass. My friend had that in his last two Grand Prixs and the signal was excellent.

I'm thinking about trying that for mine and having the antenna hole filled and painted (after I'm satisfied with the reception). If it doesn't work out, it's only ten bucks lost.
Try it out and let us all know what you think.

just did a simple DIY job...no major skill involved. Some quick instructions...
Take your stock antenna and mark the height at which you want it to sit...
Remove the antenna and place it in a vice
Take a set of pliers, wrap a rag aorund the ball-end of the antenna and pop the ball off - dont let it roll away!
Cut off the antenna at the mark you placed earlier
Grind the tip of the antenna to allow for the ball replacemant
Replace the ball on the end of the antenna - might need to tap it lightly to get it seated properly...
I've experienced no reception issues...

I've got a shorty billet antenna and the reception is almost as good as stock. The thing is that the length of the antenna is not the issue so much as the length of the wire in there. If you have a shorter antenna, the wire just needs to be wrapped around more times to make up for the length and the antenna may be a little fatter. There should not be noticeable differences with reception.

+1, I believe I got that same one for christmas, but in billet aluminum. I noticed no reception loss and the largest city (Gainesville, fl) is over 30 miles away from me.
