Default Saleen S/C and Hot Rod Cam owners........

Hey, if anybody here is running Hot Rod Cams with a Saleen S/C, what pulley are you running and how much boost are you making?

I talked to Doug at Brenspeed and he told me that the reason I may not be making any boost is because the exhaust is too aggressive on the Hot Rods for the Saleen 4" pulley and right now we're debating whether or not to try the 3.6" pulley to see if I can make any boost with that one.

I know theres some guys out there running the Saleen with the Hot Rods...just hoping for some motivation...praying no one is running the 4" with hot rods and making good boost...

i'm curious if you feel any power from the s/c.

i'm leaning towards something gauge related, your
idle vacuum is the same as mine (which is fine, @ -15).

I dyno'd a 4 hp gain with the S/C over N/A...not the gauges lol. I do notice more torque but thats all...and even then, its just a flatter torque curve, not more torque.

ok, i have to think now it's something actuator/bypass related. i can't
see a tune keeping you from building boost.

hang in there, this is just a minor hurdle on your way to many fun years
of being supercharged.

Hammeron, glad to see you chime in! I know you're a wealth of knowledge on these cars!

I've tried and played with the actuator for 3 days now. I've re run vacuum lines, I've pressed the nipple on teh actuator and lifted the plunger. It stayed up, meaning its still good.

I talked to Doug at Brenspeed and we came to teh conclusion that maybe the Hot Rod cams and the Long Tube headers are too "free flowing" on the exhaust side to create boost and the cars just blowing it out, since i'm running the biggest pulley (only 5-6psi). I'm trying to see if Hot Rod cammers are needing to push the boost a little harder or if anyone has seen the 400+ rwhp numbers with Saleen's 4" pulley and Hot Rod cams.

I'm probably going to buy the 3.6" pulley (7.5psi) and see if I can get any boost off that before I goto the KB BAP and colder plugs with the 3.4" or smaller.

i only have real world experience with stock exhaust and what i can
say is when i ran the 10 psi pulley i got 10 psi of boost, when i switched
to the 12 psi pulley which i still run, i get 12 psi of boost.

i'll be amazed if your exhaust is causing this headache. maybe
you can try spraying the old carb cleaner around the manifold, to see if
the rpm rises, this might point to a vacuum leak if there is one.

+1, I too think it might be the actuator. Sounds like it might be stuck at the open position.

Could it be stuck open and still lift the plunger and drop it at throttle??

I'm with Hammeron on this one. Hard to believe cams and exhaust are causing your lack of boost. Call another saleen dealer and ask them. There has to be some saleen guys with Hotrod cams.

Another Hot Rod cam guy here with no problems running boost. My Autometer mechanical boost gauge reads 12-15 of vacuum at idle with 7 psi of boost running the 2.57 pulley. Cams and exhaust have ZERO to do with your issue. You've got bypass/actuator issues going on or something.

If your in Florida you need to call Chris Jones over at Blow By Racing and see if he can help you. They've got my car running like a freakin rocket.
