2006 Stereo Options
I have a 2006 GT Mustang, and lately I've been having some stereo issues. With no current warranty, and an issue with possible stereo replacement, I was wondering what my options are. Any input?
Details: Shaker system with 6 CD in dash changer (factory); was told that this audio set up was difficult to replace due its size and individual amplifiers at speaker.
Thanks for any help on this...

I ripped out all the stock crap and replaced with Pioneer 3200BT player. Its now called a 3300. Touchscreen, bluetooth, dvd, cd, ipod etc.....great unit. Replaced two door speakers and rear speakers. Sounds so much better for under $600. Did the install myself........easy stuff.

I replaced the old shaker system with a pioneer 3200BT as well. I got the PAC harness when I ordered it and it made it super easy. The only amplifiers on the shaker system are for the door subs. I kept those stock and replaced the speakers. Really makes a difference. Any double din set up will work. If you go to www.crutchfield.com they have an "outfit my car" option and will show you everything you can put in there. Also if you get stuck their customer service is top notch.

Pretty easy install...found instuctions on the web...they make a harness for adaption...just need a 5 amp transformer from the head to the existing amp and go to go...huge difference in the stock speakers...didnt have time to do it on my Snake..so bought the head and let the car sound system shop pop it in ...very easy LOL...

Thinking of going with the Pioneer 3200BT just for the USB and SD card ports up front. So the remainder of the factory set up CAN be used with this head unit, it just seems to require the 5 amp transformer. I would imagine an audio shop can work that out for me. It sounds to me like I'll keep the factory speakers and amp(s) since they will work with this head unit...at least until I can afford better ones. Thanks everyone.

You don't need the 5amp transformer if you get the PAC harness. I don't have any and there is no popping. When you change the speakers you don't have to mess with the amps, unless you are changing out the door subs, then you might want to get bigger amps. If you just change the speakers and head unit its pretty easy. Like I said, I did the PAC harness and didn't need the 5amp resistors or transformers or whatever it was. This was my first time messing with a car stereo too. The speakers use a little plastic connector, so when you install them you just take the old speakers out, put the new ones in and clip the connector. The hardest part is getting to the speakers.
It is pretty easy, and I would suggest crutchfield. They can help you pick everything out and if you get stuck on the install they can help you there too. Oh and they speak english unlike some companies customer service departments.
