Default JLT CAI - clamps Q

So I've had my JLT CAI installed for a few weeks now and the other day, it felt like the car didnt have the same low end and high end power that it did when I first installed.

So I popped the hood and it seems like the rubber elbow is indented slightly on the inside. I posted pics of my install in another thread

https://mustangforums.com/forum/2005...2-giddyup.html

and you can even see that it seems slightly bent in. Obviously I installed the rubber elbow upside down since the white lettering is shown, but how tight should the clamps be because I dont want the CAI coming apart while I am driving?

I think the overtightening of the clamps is the reason for the bending of the rubber elbow. Could this be causing airflow restriction? I was also planning on cleaning the TB while I take off the intake since I have about 23k on the odometer and its never been cleaned.

If it helps I tightened them just enough to stay on, not forcing any extra torque and haven't had any issues. I also lined them up evenly along the edges, maybe this is where you are losing pressure and effecting your power. Just an idea. Cleaning your TB sounds like a good idea too.

just got done reinstalling the CAI and sure enough, I think it helped. The rubber elbow is meant to go only one way and is fitted accordindly. The CAI is actually longer when the elbow is installed correctly. Before it was easy to make it so the filter wasnt touching the car but this time I had to align it.

Either way, it seems to work better and the CAI looks alot cleaner.
