Of course, you wouldn't want to do that to Shelby or anything worth the big bucks but some cars are perfect candidates, like my 70 Cougar...
Stroker mill (500hp) with 5 speed, 4 wheel discs, double wishbone suspension with rack and pinion steering, Koni shocks and so on...

That's a great looking Cougar

I like retomod's and all, but I reaaaaally want a De Tomaso Pantera with a built 4.6/KB supercharged, six speed

The styling of that car is soo over the top and cartoony, it only makes sense to want one!

I was proud to get 11 miles to the gallon. Best ever was 14 on the highway. I sold the car when the 1st Arab oil embargo (1973) sent gas prices from 33 cents a gallon to 45 cents! Just couldn't afford it on a 1st lieutenant's pay.

True, but you have to remember this is a 46 year old car (and technology). This car held the record for the fastest 0-100-back to 0, untill the Viper came along. I really don't see our cars holding records like this for like 20 years. You really have to respect that. I can only imagine how many heads would be snapping around if you passsed by them in a mid sixties AC Cobra...

The boss 429 would barely beat it also.

I feel the same about my RR. I still have dreams about being 20 years old again, and driving it around the local boulevards.
Speaking of a Hemi RR, I once raced one from a dig back in my younger years. Needless to say, it cleaned my clock. But it sure was exciting as hell seeing it tear down the road. Those Hemi's were monsters.

Talking 1/4 mile times

1/4 times for 1960's and 1970's cars are on-line, almost the entire list is in the 13.0's and 14.0's with the exception of a couple of cars, the 427 Shelby Cobra and I think a corvette. I'm 60 years old and I swore the cars were faster when I was a kid but I own a 06 mustang gt which is S/C'd running 11.80's . I know one thing for sure though, there are alot of grandma's out there who had an awful lot of fun in those cars.

Here's a good comparison for people and a nice article. Motor trend compares a Challenger, Camaro, and GT500 to its classic counterpart.

69 GT500 Vert - 0-60 in 6.0, 1/4 mile in 14.0 (1/4 was fastest of the classics)
11 GT500 Vert - 0-60 in 4.2, 1/4 mile in 12.5
