Default 2011 5.0 Oil Burning

6800 miles on my '11 GT.
Been burning 1QT per 1,000 miles since new. Figured it would ease up as engine broke in, but it hasn't. Dealership talked to FoMoCo and they said that it's not a problem unless it gets to 1QT per 500 miles

Curious to hear what others are seeing for oil use.

Could have sworn I've read a thread on this here, but I can't seem to find it.

So lets see, change the oil at 8K intervals = 8 quarts, plus another 8 out the tail pipe = 16Q per 8K miles. So that's 2,000 miles per gallon on the oil. Just sayin.

Doesn't seem right...I haven't lost barely any oil on my first set of included motorcraft blend or my changed in Amsoil. I'd take it to another dealer and see what they say about it, because 1qt of oil per thousand miles is a quite a bit of oil disappearing. I assume you've checked to make sure there's no minor leaks from the oil pan drain plug or oil filter gasket?

Could be worse, I could be using a quart every 550 miles. Apparently, that would still be within spec.

The significant transmission backlash (the main reason took it in) was "normal" as well.

First change to Amsoil at 4K. Dry as a bone on the outside then and now. Def. going for a second opinion.

Wow sorry to hear that, I hope they can correct the issue or at least make it better. This is not that uncommon of a problem on new engine designs.

I remember in 2001 when chevy/corvette first brought out the Z06 it would burn oil as well. I know they corrected the problem for 02, but all the folks that bought the 01's had to deal with that issue. I don't remember if they did a recall or not.

So what does all that burning oil do to the cats? The good thing is you never need to change oil since it's completely refreshed every 8k miles.

That's way to much! but that's what they always say which is NOT normal! my 96 GT with 350k on only use 1/2 Q every oil change! i would keep on them because that way to much oil to be burning!!

The oil burning will damage and coat the inside of the cat's and destroy them!
