remove 1 bolt under the hood and 1 bolt under the dash, then pull it in from under dash. you can lay it over on the frame under the hood.

When I did my LT install my father and I ran into the same problem. He said normally it would just slide out but like you said it just needs to slide a little bit more to pop out. We ended up just unbolting the 2 bolts that hold the rack in place and it made it 10x easier. Only thing is you will most likely need an alignment after

did you pull off under the dash first? its slides up then. does not slide all the way, but you will be able to swing out of the way under hood. done 4 header jobs with no prob.

What are you guys doing? Why not just pull the steering shaft off the rack??? I don't know why anybody is messing with the column.

Turn the steering wheel a 1/4 turn to the left and bungee cord the wheel to the shifter or brake. This will allow straight access the upper steering shaft bolt. Remove it, and also remove the lower bolt that goes in the the lower steering knuckle. Both bolts must be completely removed. MARK BOTH ENDS with a sharpie so you get it back in correctly

Next go inside the car and unbolt the 2 10 mm (I think) bolts that are holdint the steering column coupler inside (looks like a saddle) to the firewall. once you take those nuts off you can pull the top of the steering column in towards the cabin from inside. With the steering wheel locked in place everything will go back the same way you took it out. This will release the upper knuckle. THen you can pull the steering shaft out clean for good clearance on the LT's.

Stay AWAY from trying to unbolt the steering rack.. not necessary with the above process.

Good luck!!! LT's are not technically difficult, but quite the PITA

PM me if you want some great instructions from another site.

What headers are being installed? I didn't touch anything on the steering column, all I did was remove the steering shaft and the ARH's slid right in.

Why not just undo the rack. 2-18 mm bolts and it slides forward. No alignment needed.
