Default Steering column squeak in 2010 GT

Hi Folks, new to the mustang Forum. I've searched different ways, but have been unable to find a thread for this little annoyance.

The Wife's 2010 GT has a squeak in the lower section of the steering column when the wheel is turned. Sounds as if two pieces of rubber are rubbing together. The dealer says he can fix it by removing the column. Also says it's not a problem that will cause a safety issue. This isn't a dealer bash as they have always done right by me. If it's not a safety issue, I would rather not tear into the column. Just was wondering if anyone else has this type of noise in their steering, and if you have an easier remedy. Thanks in advance for the help.

Mine does it too occasionally but doesn't really bother me. Maybe spray some silcone type lube in the column?

I had the same problem when my '10 was brand new. It went away after a few months. I dont think its a safety issue.

Thanks Gentlemen, I'll let it squeak. Your right White, it's not that bothersome.

Well Mrs. Wanted ask me to take the car back to the dealer for a second check of this problem. Found that the steering rack was the cause. Dealer replaced the rack, and it's as quite as a church mouse.
