Default Roush Drag Pak rev to 7000rpm?

Hey,

The Roush Drag Pak claims to have a 7000rpm engine calibration.....how is this? How does the 3V rev this high. Roush doesn't claim to have modified the motor.

Anyone know?

Thanks

A 3V is balanced to about 7,500rpm

But can the valvetrain handle it?

So, what, have they installed a more powerful PCM? I do not think the stock computer is powerful enough to rev the stock components to 7000, is it? As in I couldn't just raise the rev limited and start going to 7000 allowing for some over rev maybe 7200. Every tuner out there would be doing that now if it were easy and safe. And it must be reliable for Roush to allow this redline and offer a warranty.

It's not the PCM that dictates RPM it's your intake. The factory intake manifold will not allow flow much past 6,500 N/A. That's where the FRPP short runner intake comes into play, it will flow to 7,500 easily.

What is a safe max rpm for a stage 3 Saleen supercharged 4.6 with stock internals?
Thanks!

I think Brenspeed tunes theirs to 6800. Mine is set at 6500. Only makes sense spinning it that high if you're still making power.

This^^^^^ Most cars stop making power just before 7...more around 6600 6700 RPMs.......Sure you could do it but it wouldnt help ya any

Yes, I realize you need an intake set-up capable of supporting that high RPM, but you still need a powerful computer. I read about this in a feature in 5.0, which spoke of the difficulty of tuning the Coyote to be able to push 7000rpm and then how much more difficult it was to tune the Roadrunner. They said the extra 500 rpm was very difficult to tune for and the stock Coyote computer would not allow optimum performance above 7000rpm. The also spoke about this is why BMW can make the M3 rev to 8500. They're selling very expense cars and therefore can spend the extra money that Ford can't on mustangs because they are much less expensive.

Anyway, Roush uses the same intake as I have but I still have my doubts that my car would be OK to rev to 7000rpm......power making abilities aside (though at 6500 it's still pulling). Also, I do not deny you can rev any car past what the factory sets its rev-limiters at; But, I know manufacturers have very high performance standards from a reliability standpoint. I have a hard time imagining Roush setting the limiter 1000RPM higher than the factory with 5lbs of Boost in the intake with only just a different tune and no internal engine differences. They offer a full warranty on this car.....it's not Brenspeed just upping the limiter.

I know a few people with a centri-blown (procharger, paxton, etc) cars and a Ford Racing/C&L Manifold set-up and they're at 6500 max. How come these guys are not revving to 7000? (stock motors btw). I feel I'd see more people revving the motor to 7k plus if this were feasible.....and there's no question a centri car with an aftermarket intake will keep making power up to this rpm.
