My 4.0 v6 to 4.6 v8 swap
#31
i really enjoy going through this kind of stuff. far off for me now...but maybe some day in the future when im older, richer, have more time, and know more about cars, i would consider doing it. i still thoroughly enjoy the concept of having a beast of a v6 though...especially for my current uses. Thanks for posting!!!

Hmm, thinking about pulling the engine this next year and was going to stay with the 4.0 - but now I wonder what all I would need to do to replace it with a 5.4, new blower on that, and get the 4R70 automatic behind it (or some other appropriate automatic). Wonder what it would take to get the correct ECM for the car and tune it?
Hence my previous "Make it count" comment.
Heck, a carbureted 351 stroker sounds pretty good if your State allows it.
I can do this in FL. Tempting...

I'll have to talk to a couple of shops and see what they think. Could make it an interesting surprise for Bob and Jenna if I kept it quiet until after the first pass against them at the Brawl!
If I can get a 5.4 for that kind of price it's only about $500 more than the 4.0 would cost me - sell off the Xcharger for the new blower and transmission and have a nice little surprise!

As my first post on these forums, (reason I made my account Haha) I have to say All the pictures of your swap has added to my itch of Modding my car up.
09 v6, This is my first car and plan on keeping it until the end of time.
If you or anyone else who has done this swap could give me any ballparks on the general amount it cost to do this?
Maybe even just a write up of everything needed (off the top of your head info) that would make my day Haha.
From what I have read its best do have a donor car, basically a wrecked s197 right?

Thanks for any and all info you guys can give me.
(Can't trade in on a gt, and really wouldn't be happy parting with my glass roof haha.) Sentimental value mostly.

You need a pickup load of crap.
Nah, it's not that bad.
Check out the 4.6 section on www.mustangcollective.com for mine and others' swap details. There's always someone doing such a swap, including one I'm helping to do as soon as one last item is obtained.
