Default Summer Tires in Colder Climate?

How well do summer tires do in the winter? I am moving from south Florida to South Carolina soon and the temps in the winter can get down in the 20's. Snow is not a problem as it usually doesn't stick to the roads, but it does get below freezing.

I have Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar tires, which are high performance summer tires, on my car now. It specifies that the tires should not be operated in near freezing temperatures. How dangerous is it actually to drive on them in 20 degree weather?

Thanks,
JD

I have a 2010 WRX as a DD, and for the 2010 year they decided to fit it with summer tires from the factory.

When it gets below 30, they are like bricks. Cornering, and braking are hindered, although not nearly as much if there is snow on the ground. Meanwhile, people are like "It's AWD so it should be awesome," not quite! I would invest in a good winter tire, worth the investment.

I have the same tires on my supercharged 08. When the temps get below 40 you can prctice drifting without trying! Just becareful the first time you go around a freeway on ramp at low temps.

Its going to be pretty sketchy man, I wouldn't risk it, very slippery, and you can lose traction and not even know it. Could be very dangerous, not only to you but other drivers as well. I would invest in some stock Pirelli PZero Nero's wheels and tires, or just the tires. They are all season and pretty affordable.

:Edit:

Check the parts for sale section of the forums, I'm sure someone will be selling some wheels and tires that you could swap out

Most summer tires suk below 40 degrees F on dry pavement. Add any type of precipitation and you had better stay home.
