I looked on rockauto and they can rebuild my pcm for $230. Im going to remove the pcm tonight when I get home and try to get it sent out tomorrow. Has anyone else had any luck with a rebuilt pcm?

Ive put wanted ads up on craigslist recently for parts with no luck. After I get my PCM fixed ill get a list of the things I need and do another posting. Thanks for the advice.

Interesting thread, keep us posted on your progress.

Was the car totally submerged in the canal? Have you removed all the interior? Does it smell funky? Any water get into the engine?

Apparently it isn't hydrolocked since it runs.

Sorry for all the questions but with all the flood vehicles out there I'm just wondering if they can be saved and what all is involved. Good luck with it!

The car was not totally submereged but up to the windows. The interior was removed and cleaned. Currently the inside looks very good with a new carpet. No smells or signs of flood. All the people that have checked the interior couldnt believe that it was in water. The engine fluids have been drained and changed multiple times to ensure no water in present.

I have a friend with an identicle car (2005 4.6 5speed). Today I plan on removing the guage cluster and trying his. His is supercharged but he said he wouldnt mind resetting his pcm ecu to factory and letting me try it. I would hate to damage his stuff so I think Ill wait on that. I also found the same radio as mine on craigslist for $20. I plan on pickong that up soon to see if the electrical in my dash is working properly. Ill let you know how everything turns out.

This is a fascinating project for the cost of a tow! I'll look forward to hearing what progress you make getting this running. I'd bet everyone will be curious to hear what you spend on each aspect of it, so if you wouldn't mind posting that, we'd all be interested. And please, if he does post what he pays, let's not call him out for it by saying that you could have got that part or service for a lot less! I've been on here long enough to know that some people would do that - but not the hard core enthusiasts.

Im sorry for the misunderstanding but i paid $3500 for the car. So far ive spent...
$3500 Car
$381 car dolly (florida to ny)
$125 gas split with co-worker
$20 cd player
$26 sjb (salvage)
$40 ford failed diagnostic charge
Free from friend 3" cowl hood
Free factory same color extra bumper

That all I can think of right now but im sure Ill have much more in it. Today I removed the instrument cluster, radio bezel, and pcm. I didnt get a chance to get my friends but I will this weekend.

Ill try to attach some pictures when i get a chance so you can all see what Ive got.

The car came with after market rims, brand new headlights never installed, new radiator, and new carpet. At 74,000 miles there was a knock for the previouse owner. Ford replaced the top half of the engine including the heads with all new parts. The car currently has 77,000 miles. Besides the fact that its in limp mode, when the car starts it sounds and runs real well.

Thanks for all the interest and suppprt. I look forward to comments and ideas. Ill keep you all up to date with my progress this weekend.

The PCM should have been sealed and should have not
suffered any damage from being submurged.

The BEC and the SJB are not waterproof and will suffer from
the powered up submarine ride.
The 'limp' mode should have a DTC associated with it leading
the tech to a bad sensor or wiring harness, not a bad PCM.
It seems the stealership wants to throw (expensive) parts
at this problem without knowing what real course of action
to take to remidy the problems.
