Default Just ordered my CAI & tune

So, after browsing through American Muscles cyber monday sales, I came across the C&L CAI and sct tune, which was on sale. I figured I should get the deal while I can, especially since the C&L's are usually a little more pricey. That, plus the MF discount code.

Anyway, I ordered the 87, 89, and 91 tunes. Is there anything specific I should know or consider about installation and usage? (apart from the silly things, i.e. correct gas and what not)

I have the same setup and it is pretty much plug and play. I run the 93 Race tune all the time. I used the 89 for a month and after testing the 93 there is no need for the other tunes. I suggest using the 91.

Once you receive the package and install it, I would recommend using the technique that NUKE suggests... Load the lowest octane tune 1st and drive it around and then install the next higher tune, driving around on it too. If you still aren't satisfied, then load that last, highest octane tune and try that out... There will be subtle differences in each tune that would likely be even less obvious if you load the highest octane tune right off the bat and then work down to a lower octane tune. Then you can decide which is best for your driving habits.

Also, start now with your next fill up and start filling your tank with the highest octane gas that your tunes were ordered for, in your case, 91, if you haven't already been running it.

Good luck and I hope you enjoy the kick. Definitely worth the cost of admission.

Not to hijack the post, but thanks for that info. I ordered the same thing (C&L CAI with SCT Tune), but I just pressed 93 for all tunes. I sure I should be able to call BAMA to email me different tunes so I can start lower and go higher if desire.

As I always recommend, have the tank full with the octane matching your highest tune, then take the car for a spirited drive FIRST and pay attention to how she spins up and everything. Install the CAI and then load the LOWEST octane tune first, followed by a repeat of that first drive. Load the next higher tune and repeat the drive and so forth. You may be surprised to find that you prefer a lower octane tune for use as your DD tune.

I have 87, 89 and 93 custom tunes. I run the 89 about 99.9% of the time. I'll only run the 93 if I intend to be running hard and above 3k RPM frequently.

What's the advantage of the 89 over 93? Is it minimal difference so its not really worth the higher price of gas ?

The higher octane tune will generate a bit more HP and torque but occasionally in a different RPM range. I found my 93 tune to be ballz-wicked from about 3500-4000 RPM on up but a real dog in the lower RPM range. My 89 tune seems better in the lower RPM range and not as aggressive in the upper range as the 93 and my 87 tune is pretty much even throughout the RPM range but is still hands-down superior to the stock 87 tune.

That's why I always recommend trying each tune by comparing stock first and then thru the ascending octanes.
