Default Least expensive E-Brake assembly

I believe that my E-Brake assembly needs to be replaced. It will not engage at all and I have tried adjusting it. I have heard that people replace theirs with a leather wrapped version. I don't care either way about the leather, I just need a functioning parking brake!

Where is the best place to purchase the assembly?

Best prices?

Thanks!

Are you sure it's the handle?
If your parking brake will not engage, the problem is most likely with the cable and not the handle in the interior... The leather wrapping is totally aesthetic and can be done on your existing handle if that is what you want. Cracks develop around the cable jacket allowing moisture in there and corroding the cables until they rust and break... Another symptom of the cracked jackets is in freezing weather and they get stuck. I had this happen last winter and learned not to set my parking brake this time of year, atleast until I get it replaced.

On the 05/06 the e-brake cable is known to have freezing issues (cable gets frozen in the jacket. Do a forum search for 'Frozen' or 'sticking' e-brake. You'll find the answers there.

in the service manual, it says there are two different parts

http://iihs.net/fsm/?dir=112&viewfil...ded%20View.pdf

but in this exploded view in this ebay auction, it looks like it's the same part number for both sides. i know that due to the freezing/sticking issue that they changed the part, this might be the reasoning for the difference. I'd call the dealership to confirm.

The cheapest I've found is $46.

I understand what you guys are saying but my main cable is broke. I can't find just the main cable anywhere. The back two cables are good. From my understanding, you have to purchase the entire handle assembly. That is what i'm looking for.

as far as I can tell, this is the part number you're looking for 6R3Z-2780-C and it's around $100

According to TousleyFordParts.com, "Part number 6R3Z2780C was superseded by part number 9R3Z2780B." Their price is $104 and change plus shipping. Give Steve a call there if you opt to purchase through them. I have used them several times and have always been 100% satisfied with speed of delivery, professionalism, and the costs.
