The lower the gear ration the harder/more power required to spin the tires. Bumping up the 2013 3.31 gear ratio to a 3.73, 4.10 or 4.30 would help a lot wit traction issues. Combine a lower gear with a street/strip slick and the 2013 GT500 would be a launch animal. I would bet it is a 11.50 quater mile car or maybe faster. I can't wait until the summer to watch these new cars hit the track.

Install these on the new GT500 or a ZL1:

This rim/tire combo give an awesome stance.

I stand corrected. The go-cart like, race car like Ford GT has a time that is a whole .6 or 6/10ths of a second faster than the sports coupe, 3900lb 2013 ZL1 ???

Again, where the hell is Ford in all this???? Erik

I believe the rubber compound counts much more than the total width of the tire. a 315 nitto 555 street tire will hook worse than some 245 soft rubbered performance tire. The smaller the tire contact patch, the more pounds per square inch is on each square inch of rubber, so the width doesnt matter as much as the tire rubber compound.

Narrower tires and rims are also lighter.

look up some of the 1/4 mile times of outlaw 10.5 class

10.5 inch rear rim

this guys rear rim is 10.5 and he does 0-230 mph in 6.9 seconds

whats the rim size on the 2013 gt500

you say 285's so it must be atleast 10 inch wide

And do you all really think 285s really wont suffice? Imo its all about the quality/type of the tire rubber.

I'm running 305 Nitto 555r drag radials on the stock 9.5" rim... mine hook pretty well... you are going to be hard pressed to find any non-drag radial/slick to hook on these 3800+cars with 650hp....

My car hooks pretty well at 675 +/- rwhp with some basic suspension mods and drag radials... It's not the size of the tire as some people have said... it's the tire compound.

The problem with the really soft summer tires is they wear quickly and sound and grip not so good after a few thousand miles, so it never ends. Erik

Sure tire compound is the great equalizer.

But let's control out tire compound of this debate:
Two identical cars, two drivers if equal skill
Both cars have tires of identical compounds.
One car has 285 rear wheels
The other has 305 rear wheels

The 285mm wheels will slip beafore the 305mm wheels.
Now put slicks on both cars. Both get better grip sure. But the scenario is still the same. The 285 will slip before the 305 will.
