Default 17" winter tires on 2011 GT?

Hi all,

I was reading up on the threads referring to winter tires, and didn't find what I needed. Anyway, I am looking to purchase a 2011 GT. My questions is, can I get 17" rims and tires for my winter setup? I prefer a taller tire (matching OEM diameter) for a winter setup which seem to absorb the pot holes better in michigan. Plus that size is much cheaper.

I currently have a 2003 G35 sedan and use a 16" setup for winter, which does not an issue clearing the brakes even though the OEM size is 17.

So I guess I just want to know, will a 17 inch rim fit on a 2011 GT?

They should, I know some won't if you have the brembo brake setup though.

Ok, I just wanted to know if someone has done it before. When I went to tirerack the smallest size they recommend for standard or brembo is 18.

You can still go with an 18" snow tire. It's the tire OD you want to maintain as close to the stock tire OD, regardless if the wheel is 17" or 18". Also, for snow tires, the skinnier the better.

Right, I know they make 18" snow tires but I would like a higher tire wall by going with 17" and maintaining the same diameter. Tire rack has 215/60/17 for $110, and they have almost the same diameter as the stock 235/50/18's.

I could probably save at least $400 by going with 17" rim and tires.

When I was looking into it, I also discovered that stock rims are too wide for tires <225...

Unless it has the Brembo brakes, yo could pick up a set of 17" rims from the base V6. Then you could put whatever tire on it you want.

With the Brembo brakes, you must use 18" or larger.

Good to know, but I would probably get dedicated rims for the winter.
