Whats the best clutch! Its clutch time...
My clutch is out the door. Noticed today if I punch it in any way in like third gear or above, it slips bad. I knew this was going to happen, its the OEM stock clutch. I don't drive it like grandma so, I knew the time would come with all the HP it has.
So, what's the best clutch setup for an S197 with my setup? I was thinking about a center force dual friction but, not sure that's the best way to go or not. I'll bet my pressure plate is fine but some guidance on that too would be great.
Thanks

Mine finally started to slip after a couple passes with DRs and based a lot of research, I went with the Exedy Mach 500 (which I picked up for <$400 during the black Friday sales) along with a matching light weight steel flywheel. You can't go wrong with McLeod RST, but it is not a cheap clutch. The Exedy also comes with a new slave, which should be replaced anytime your clutch is swapped and that alone runs $150.

It was partially cost driven as the idea of spending >$1K on just the parts (clutch, slave, flywheel, and JPC stainless line) seemed a bit much for how I use the car. I chatted with users of both and there were some trade-offs I took into consideration.
Here's a thread I started on S197forums that was very helpful.

I just finished a B302 build up and went with an RST and alum. flywheel, only have a couple of hundred miles on it, but so far I like the way it shifts, but it wasn't cheap, but nothing was cheap about this build. This is post no. fifty so I think I can post some pictures, a real nice motor.

You do not need to replace the slave on your clutch when you put in a new one. You can even use the stock flywheel with the RST if you choose. If it were me I would buy a complete kit from Mcleod and be done with it. The stainless steel lines aren't needed either but it's your money.
I have about 15k on my RST with several hundred passes at around 550 rwhp.
