Thinking about taking the plunge

to me, the 5.0 has plenty of power and is more modern. for the price, you could get a base or a used gt and supercharge it and get the best of both worlds. I've heard of some sort of vortech supercharged dealer warrantied setup for 3 years?? don't know the details, or maybe the sales person was blowing smoke up my ***, but it sounded too good to be true

IMO, I would go with the GT500. Its a more unique car, and I prefer the body style of the pre 2010 to 2010+ S197s... The later models are just too european for my tastes, whereas the 2007 has some strong classic styling

Trust me.. go with the GT500. I was debating over the same thing. I made the choice to go with the GT500 and have not looked back. You'll know you made the right choice when you test drive it, or when you buy it and then run into a new 5.0 that wants to play.
If you do the CAI/pulley swap/tune it'll put you at about 550rwhp, and the shelby internals are good to about 750rwhp. No one knows the limits of the Coyote 5.0 with the 11:1 compression at this point, some are having issues with cylinder #8 compression, and there are already some showing issues with their transmissions.

Those things are faster than pretty much anything on the road

I did it! But rather than getting the 2007, I picked up a mint 2011 Shelby GT500 with 4,000 miles. It's red with white racing stripes and is loaded with the electronics package and SVT performance package. Soooooooo sweeeeeeeet. I LOVE IT.
