When I drove a 3.7 I could definitely tell that it was faster, but I feel like my car FELT faster. I do have a CAI/tune so maybe my car does accelerate just a little harder, but the 3.7 just did not have the same feeling.

When I drive my dad's GT/CS with UDPs, CAI, tune, 4.10s, it feels like I'll never be able to get back in my own car. There is this one turn I take on the way to work where I WOT around the turn to kick the rear out..... In my dad's car, I barely went half throttle and I almost spun.

When I drove my uncle's 5.0, damn, that was powerful. It wasn't quite as peppy as my dad's car off the line but it was ridiculously powerful. My car doesn't even chirp the tires if I bury the pedal at over 7 or 8 mph but that car did a full burnout at 15.

I have not personally driven a supercharged 4L that I can remember, but being about as powerful as my dad's car, I would say it is a very fast car. Even without the 4.10s my dad's car has, I'd expect it to be very very quick.

I own a 2012 3.7 M6, it is low on power up to about 4K RPM, then it really lights up. My best time 0-60 is 5.6 sec, ( I put a video cam in the dash). It'll spin the factory 17" tires at will in 1st, and will easily spin them going into 2nd and 3rd. I rented an auto on a trip to CA, it was very boring compared to the manual trans. I think this is due to the 2.73 rear end in the auto and the auto trans. The low torque under 4K RPM may feel tame, but these are pretty quick cars. The plus side, they are easy to handle in rain and snow, just keep the RPM under 4K. If you do not need to drive in bad weather, the V8 will be a lot more fun.

I know it is faster but I was disappointed with it, it didnt throw me back in the seat like I wanted it to. The 05 Mustang GT didnt really feel that fast to me either, but It was alot better than the 3.7L. The 5.0 GT was ****ing nuts, I really was not expecting that much out of the car. I drove my boss' C6 z06 corvette a few months ago and the sensation of speed I got out of the 5.0 Mustang was comparable to the corvette. If you have a chance to drive a 5.0 DO IT, it blew me away.
Nice. Just so we can compare numbers...

(v6) 4.0L: 210hp/240tq - 3300lb

(v6) 3.7L: 305hp/280tq - 3450lb

(v8) 4.6L: 300hp/320tq - 3450lb

(v8) 5.0L: 412hp/390tq - 3600lb

The difference in torque between the 3.7 and 4.0 is only 40 ft lbs. However I am surprised that you guys keep saying they feel very similar with a 95 hp difference.. sounds like you only get all of that power in the 3.7 at the very top of the power band.

The 5.0L is freaking mean and surprised they are getting that power N/A.... remember the terminator 03/04 cobra? That had very similar numbers to the 5.0. I'd love to drive both of those cars.

My father test drove a bone stock 5-speed 08 Mustang GT with very low miles (after test driving a couple 350Z's and RX8's) and said it felt like it needed another 50 horses. His favorite part is how solid built the car feels and drives.

Also comparing the new 3.7L to the old 4.6L ... same hp numbers, but 40 tq difference. The thing I love about a v8 is the big torque down low at 2500 rpm, no need to rev it really high if you don't want to.

I guess the power bands mean everything to how the car feels in the real world, rather than just the "300hp" number. A great example is the RX8 6 speed, 232hp but only 159 tq. However, when you can rev to 9000 rpm and you have nearly all of your tq after 3500rpm, thats a crapload of rev range and it just *felt* faster than it should have. Also under 3000 lbs.

Yeah man look at the torque numbers, after a CAI/tune you're probably only about 20 less than the 3.7

edit: I havnt driven a stock 4.6L but after being blown, I feel like i would be disappointed

Dude when I first test drove the 3.7 before I bought it I felt also like ehh it's quicker but Idunno if worth it...BUT...Once the sales rep told me you feel the power after 3,4 RPMs it was a different beast, I was sold after I took it out for another spin, then the iceing on the cake was the performance packedge I got aswell..shazzam!

It'd be a hard decision for me to decide between a new 5.0 or a low mile 4.6L with a blower... hitting boost is just too fun. Or a 4.6 with twin turbos :O
My thoughts exactly

That's what i love about being Supercharged, if at 40 or 45mph in the cold weather, if i shift down to 2nd gear, I will accelerate and spin, but because of the low end torque, you can just shift downshift into 3rd and get very fast acceleration without breaking loose. Erik

Yeah it sounds like fun to drive I mean don't they get 30 mpg highway? I saw that commercial of the gray or black one with those gunmetal rims and couldn't compute 30mph highway and 306 hp.... but its just economy down low and sport up high

need some fat tires man! im running 285 wide yokohama advans and it grips great but the street is usually really rough (and that doesn't mix well with live axle)

Idunno..all I wanted to due was get my CAI/tune and I'm sure there more Of a beast under the hold, but we will seeee

I have always heard it is the power under the curve that matters, not the peak number. For example, I went to a dyno and there was a chart for a Supra on their wall, made something stupid like 800 or 900 to the wheels. However, it only made 300hp at 4000 or 5000 rpms, then shot up from there. So ya, all that power is great, but it is not useable in every day driving and might not be as fast as something with 600 or 700hp that has a flatter curve that peaks sooner and holds the power.
