Default 2010 Vert Top Stitching question...

My fiance has a 2010 Convertible. It has 14K miles and is 1.5 yrs old. She takes very good care of it. Puts the top down occasionally, but not too much. I've shown her how to clean it properly using Raggtops.

Recently when we went to go clean it we noticed the stitching on either side is gone in many places. Just gone. Contacted Ford, they say it is normal wear and tear. I have a 9 year old BMW top that does not have this issue.

Has anyone had had any experience with this and what came of it? I called ford, even spoke to a supervisor. If this is the quality of american made cars, I personally will stick to foreign cars... just pathetic. She has always wanted a convertible, but now is upset. She feels if the stitching dissolves every 1.5yrs she would rather sell it. She really loves the car.

Any recommendations?

Sounds like warranty to me. That seems real early for stitching to be coming apart. Try getting with the cust. rep on here......they can help.

my vinyl top (i assume yours is vinyl too) shows very minor wear and is from 2006.

on a personal note, i prefer 303 over raggtopp, no relation to the stitching issue though.

I spoke to Ford Motor Corp and the official stance is it is NOT Warrantied, is a wear item. What cheapskates.

The dealership that sold it may help us. but they are 4 hrs away.

That sucks. There is no way the thread should breakdown so quickly. Can you post some photos? I own an industrial sewing shop and could send the photos to my thread guy to see what he has to say about it. If you post the photos send me a PM so I know to come look in this thread.

I will get some photos soon. Thanks.

My fiance has always wanted a convertible. I helped find this car. I feel bad now. I will know now to avoid Ford as they do not support their product. I was considering an Explorer, but forget that!

She has called Ford Motor Corp. as well as the local dealership service mgr to be told it is a wear item and not covered. Wear item? She has prob taken the top down 18x at most.

What garbage!

My 2006 has 194,500 miles on it and has been through all kinds of weather. It even had to sit outside when we were remodeling the house 2 winters ago. No abnormal wear, all the seams are sealed well still.

2010 could be cloth top, I don't think they use the vinyl like mine anymore though.

Get the pictures up so we can get an idea.

It is a vinyl top. Absolutely ridiculous to call this a wear item. Wear? How? They actually said it could be how we open it. Let me see... unlock each side and push a button? Really, Ford, do you cover up your cheap materials by BS?

I will get photos up soon.

We are working on letters to the editor, maybe contact a local TV person who handles stuff like this.

On my '07 GT Vert, they replaced one of the 3 replaced tops because the bead type material cracked at the folds. That top had been on the car for about 12,000 miles and was replaced at 36,000 miles.

My cloth top was also replaced under warranty for premature wearing over the door windows. There were quite a few guys on Team Shelby that had the same issue and all had tops replaced at least once. I would challenge them on it as their stance is a bunch of crap!
