dealer overfilled engine oil
hay guys went in for an oil change and noticed on bill that they put in 6.75 quarts when the car only takes 6...........i went around the block and returned to get some oil drained. Would it have done damage to my car driving about a mile? im really worried

No, not after a mile or more. Over time it would have, though.
Just ANOTHER reason to learn to do your own oil changes. So easy, even a caveman can do it. And YOU pay good money to have some MONKEY do it. It actually takes less time to do it yourself, including any clean up, then it takes to drive to a shop and back.

oil level on dipstick was at the top hole

I usually throw 7 qts in my 2010 4.6. I find 6qts fills it to the bottom line and 7 puts it just over the top off line. Not a big deal to me and im a tech at ford. The ford capacity chart we are provided at work i always find to be a little off and i personally like my oil at the max line

when i looked at the level on dipstick it was at the top hole right after shutting off car! wouldn't oil level go up after car has been sitting for a while since all the oil in engine goes down to the oil pan? thats when we are to verify oil level right?

If the engine has been running, shutting it off and letting it sit for a couple of minutes will provide enough time for enough of the oil to drain back to get a good indication. I prefer to check mine when the engine is cold but I have no problem trusting the reading when it's still hot.
The level on the dipstick should be anywhere up or down to and between the 2 holes (or whatever the high and low markings are on any particular dipstick)

Running and non-running oil levels are different.
Just because the receipt said 6.75 quarts does not mean
that there is actually 6.75 quarts of oil in the engine.
There is whatever the $7.75 an hour guy put in it.
Let her sit and check the oil on the dipstick with the
vehicle sitting level. Then stop worrying.
