Default PA Deep Trans Pan Install

I finally got around to installing this pan. I drag race a lot and want to keep my trans in good shape. Install is very simple except that the dipstick tube would not line up. The directions say to bend the trans cooler lines over to make it fit. I was not comfortable in potentially damaging them so I bent the tube itself. It took about 4 attempts and then it fit perfect. I slide some heater hose over the tube so the tube wasnt resting on the trans lines. Also at the top I added some heater hose to keep the tube off my m90 lines. The tube came with a metal bracket for stabilizing it on the starter bolt. That thing was just in the way, so we cut it off. Its held on tight already with the added hoses and angle of the tube.

Adding the trans fluid has never been easier. Take out the dipstick and pour down the tube. If you have ever changed your fluid you know what I mean......its a huge PITA.

We noticed a small leak down on the pan at the factory installed brass fitting. Before installing the pan we should have pulled this off and used some plumbers tape but we didnt so we had to wrench it tighter several times and finally got it properly sealed.

When putting it in gear now it seems to be a little smoother. I may have been a little low on fluid, IDK as it was very hard to determine the fluid level before.
I purchased through AM as they had the best price and with the MF discount it was even cheaper. Now I am ready for race season.

Thanks for the post 808, this will be one of my future mods...Not because I race, but because it's nice to be able to check your tranny oil level..

Looking to do this myself also. One question: Is the dipstick marking accurate? Did you verify the level on the dipstick matches the actaul via the overflow tube method on the base of the pan?

A word of warning about this pan. It hangs LOW; way below the undercarriage lines, so if your car is lowered, you WILL be hitting tall speedbumps with it.

A necessary evil with these 5r55s trannies, and power adders.

Which brings me an idea. If someone were to make a stock-size replacement trans pan for the 5r55s, but with the dipstick tube added to it, I would probably even replace my deep pan for one of those.

The overflow concept is not applicable with the deep pan as it holds 4 extra quarts of fluid. It dos hang low but so do my resonators and I am not lowered so it's not an issue.

I did a 80 mile cruise today and the trans shifts much better now. I wonder if I was low on fluid before? I have a trans catch can so I don't know where it went. Lol

By the way, what is the proper way to measure the fluid level with this pan? I was told to measure with the engine running in Park. Other places I've read to measure in Drive.

You really cant measure when its in drive. Just not practical. I think the important thing is to have it up to running temp and make sure you run the gear selector through the gears with your foot on the brake, then take the reading.
