long thread, dont have time to read, but I was on the receiving end of a 40mph rear-end and I had a minor back injury, initially i felt fine, but within an hour all my muscles were knotting up in my back. The driver that hit me was drunk, 19 years old. I went to the hospital for x-rays, got some muscle relaxers and then saw a back specialist, i had a slightly twisted vertabrae i just did physical therapy and masssages for about a month and it felt better/was back in place. Reported i was 100% better to the insurance company and all they gave me was $1200, which is a bit low for that type of injury per the lawyer i talked he, said $2000 was more customary for the type of injury and length of healing, but i just said screw it, not gonna fight for $800.

my sister and mom have been in worse accidents and have been paid out more, like $6,000+ but really for auto accidents you typically aren't going to be to get much out of them unless there is permanent damage. Which seems fair to me. The crappy part is those people who claim constant pain but really have no pain and get huge settlements and ruin people's lives.

anyway you should be okay and not have to worry about them suing you to oblivion, unless they are real scumbags.


I agree with moostang, you can turn left across double yellow lines, double yellow indicates no passing. not no turning, concrete medians make it a no turning.. unless you are in a big enough truck basically a no left turn sign would need to be posted to make it illegal to turn there. haha.. man just thinking about all the places I couldn't turn into if I couldn't cross a double yellow has me laughing

edit: finished the thread. A lawyer would contact the insurance company first, because what happens if he doesn't is he contacts you and you call your insurance company who sends you one of their lawyers and then they discuss the case, he is basically wasting his time. The only reason a lawyer would attempt to contact you first is in a hope that he can catch you admitting to something if fault was disputed, but clearly there is no dispute and I'd hope most of us are smart enough not to talk to a lawyer representing someone injured in an accident you were involved in even if he caught you admitting some sort of fault on the phone or negligence then it's easy enough to say that you misspoke on the phone or whatever else your insurance company's lawyer would probably be able to wriggle you out of it. but still not a good idea.

If you are ever sued for an auto accident you just send the lawsuit to your insurance company, they'll provide representation because they are on the hook for your liability limit. If they already paid out that limit you can be made responsible for anything beyond that. Whether the insurance company will continue to represent you depends on state laws and the company itself. That's why a 100,000 liability policy isn't a bad idea, it typically doesn't cost a lot more than a 25 or 50. for personal injury, there is also property damage, so be careful what you run into, but 50k is typically enough unless you drive around a lot of exotics. I've heard of people doing 100,000+ in property damage though. State Farm in AZ has said they will continue to represent you with a lawyer for any case you had a claim filed on, not sure if that is company policy, state law, or just an agent trying to make state farm sound good heh

It's a 2000 Chevy S10. It's been lowered 4-5" all around? I can't remember. It was like that when I bought it. Besides being a hard ride that kills your back, it really is a nice truck. Maybe I just hold sentimental value towards it since I bought it when I was 16.

Just so everyone knows, I know I was the one that messed up, not her. I guess I was venting my anger towards the other driver. I should have been paying attention. I'm sure you can cross a double yellow line. When I was reporting to my insurance company, I was just answering the questions she was asking. She was the one that mentioned crossing a double yellow line.

Unfortunately, my truck can barely handle a speed bump, let alone a median! I don't even think the front end would clear without scraping.

I installed about 10 of those Cervini cowl hoods on these cars already (including 3 members here)...
Everyone of them had great fit and finish, which translates in minimal prepping.
And yes, Cervini will provide the re-locator squirter kit in the package.

Just because its illegal doesn't give you the right to hit them (friend is GIECO insurance claimer, and he tells me the most ridiculous stories on a day by day basis haha)...glad you owned up knowing you need to pay more attention. Glad you're okay though.

I'm think it's illegal. It is illegal to cross a double solid yellow, indicating as soon as your wheels cross the line you're breaking the law. Now do cops enforce it on the daily basis that's another story.

I didn't WANT to hit them. After this, I think i'm going to be one of the safest drivers ever. Or atleast safer than I was. You should see how bad drivers are around here.

it is a wonder how some people manage to get their driver's license. I think some re-testing and a decent difficult exam every 5 years would do wonders to improve our traffic. Now this is funny, I've been in a meeting where someone asked a cop if it was legal to turn left from a one-way onto a one-way and she didn't know. In MT(and every state i've lived in), yes, it is legal. She explained she isn't a traffic cop, but you'd expect all cops to know traffic laws.
