hes trying like hell to lose me and i am up his butt the entire time

Don't be flattered about claiming victory over a viper.

I am on my second viper. First was an 02 GTS and now an SRT10 coupe. They are crappy street racers (seriously traction-challenged) and half of them in my area have been totalled (according to Dodge dealer). You have to be an idiot to street race a viper. Mine is stock and has no traction control, nor any of the stability controls that come standard on stangs, camaros, vettes..whatever.

This means if you lose the rearend and that's very easy...you're on your own. Hence why so many are wrecked and so many totalled. They are torque monsters stock and Mopar sells 150 hp bolt-on kits and 4-6lbs of boost on the stock motor will give you 150-200 extra horses. Having 505 ci motors stock allows for easy performance mods if you feel the need. In the viper community, vipers are often referred to as 200 mph gocarts with a license plate. They are actually very crude vehicles...but also quite uncommon...about 22,000 made since the first in 1992.

If my life depended upon it, I would race from a roll and maybe start at 90-100 in 3rd.
The Gen IVs with just a tire change are hitting high 10s in the 1/4. The Gen V, 2013 viper due out in a few weeks will have 650-700 hp naturally aspirated.

You don't buy a $90K+ car to street race from light to light. Apparently the OP met an idiot viper driver who does.

Why bother thinking about it? The whole thrill of a race is not knowing whether you are gonna win or lose and trying to be the guy that wins.

It's hard to bench race unless you know everything about each of the cars though.

I've gone against lots of different cars around my HP range (tuned 09 GT) and most of them can't keep up. It's more about traction and the drivers reaction than it is raw HP. 6.0l GTO I went up against last couldn't keep up. He didn't have the control to lay down the power in first and second like I did.

Hey Piledriver.

Why don't you try on a viper that has forced induction...twin-turbos are very popular with the viper crowd. Anybody can beat anything with enough mods....but stock to stock is another matter.

Depends on what year the Viper was, up till 2003 they only had 400bhp till 98 and 450bhp 98-02 with a 3300 pound curb weight, I can tell you right now I like my odds against that.

Whatever you say, mister... I have 725 hp @ the motor; The last time I checked the Viper had significantly less. How much hp more will a forced induction Viper have? And don't say 1000...I will tell you BS. What do the newer ones have at the motor? 600hp? that's only about 510 rwhp. My Mustang cost a little less then 50K to build... what's he gonna pay? 115-125K turbo or blown?? I'll take the extra $65,000 and buy me a 200mph Vette. You cannot go and compare a Mustang with a Viper... they are two different animals. I still say I will beat a forced induction Viper; you yourself said they are virtually impossible to control at speed. I just got my Mustang back from my Tuner 3 weeks ago; and am already running in the mid 10's. When I really get to know her, I bet there are some high 9's to be had here.
Where do you live? I am retired, the only thing I do 4-5 days per week is train at the Gym for two hours. My time is mine. I live the easy life... I think it's time for a nap.

The Ninja ZZR1400 is capable of accelerating from 0–60 mph in 2.5 seconds, quarter mile in the mid nines. The CBR 600CC can hit 60 in 3.3 seconds. Even a slow bike can beat a fast car up to 60 or 70.
Most Harleys are really slow, 0-60 in 5 or 6 seconds, but the V-Rods can be pretty fast. Harley has one in their Lobby that can run the 1/4 mile in 9 seconds, it has a few cool features like an air powered shifter, punch a button and it shifts up a gear...the rear tire looks like a car tire.

Check out Racing Solutions out of Texas. They have a twin turbo kit good for 1500hp.

You're dreaming

Very happy for you, but not a lifestyle I would envy nor impressed by.

We had a 2000 viper GTS and we put an aftermarket blower which was only about 6k tuned and all, and we were at 650 bhp @ 5psi. It is definitely beatable but a viper owner wouldn't have to drop that much $$$ to make his car a real monster.

And whoever is saying they beat all the bikes, I'm not saying that you are BS'ing but I have had 4 gsxr 1000's and I'll tell you that your car would never come close to any of those bikes.
